QUESTION:
recipes for juices that help you loss weight FAST?
i NEED to go on a diet i had a baby 6 months ago and i want to go to the marine corp ball with my husband in november 19 so i want to drink fluids all day and eat one meal a day but i would like to know some recipes for juice drinks that will help me lose weight (any suggestions about this diet or any good diets)-
ANSWER:
The carrot juice, sold by the quart or liter, in the refrigerator section, of your market is very good. A good diet plan would be as follows, coffee or almond milk with home made whole grain bread (one slice) for breakfast, then, being busy all afternoon with the baby or work or housework plus the baby, plus walking outside with him/her, then dinner of one bowl of vegetable soup with barley in it for protein. The soup can be made in a large pot then put into serving size portions for the freezer. It can be made with or without soup bones, but the bones do provide protein and calcium. Many recipes for vegetable or minestrone soup are on the Internet. Split pea soup is very healthy. It can be treated the same way. How the rest of the family eats is just how you tailor it, and has nothing to do with you. You just provide what they will eat and like. As for juice all day, no, sorry. Too much sugar. Drink water or lemon tea. Have three glasses of almond milk for vitamin D plus get any sunshine midday with a walk with the baby, and be sure baby gets vitamin D, to prevent Rickets. You want to pass the physical and be strong, so do your running and work out with weights. Marine corp does allow basic training for two weeks, then, dismisses quite a few. You might have better luck with army.

QUESTION:
What are the healthiest foods for rapid detox and weight loss?
I would like to go on a cleanse and start a healthy regimen for the new year. What are the best foods/combinations to do a detox and then a weight loss regimen? Are these cleansers like Puristat a bunch of hog wash or are they any good? I know to keep a low carb, low sugar, low fat diet, but are there any super food secrets I should know? Or juicing recipes that are great? Thanks so much!-
ANSWER:
I was just watching a segment on channel 3 news in Cleveland OHio about detoxing... I tried one that really did seem to work well... as long as I followed it to the t... which I didn'tAnyway the segment basicially said that all the detox systems on the shelves aren't worth a whole lot, and basicially don't do a whole lot as a matter of fact when they contacted the companies they couldn't even tell you what detoxing is.... interesting
anyway at the end of the segment all she said was that PLENTY of water and TONS of greens (veggies that are green... the greener the better)... I would add to that myself spices.. like cayenne pepper or the like or maybe some tabassico sauce (great metabo booster as well)
I'm not saying that the detox boxes don't work but if you want a decent on your going to have to pay upwards 50 bucks.... and you may have a decent system that will work pretty effectivetly...
also there is also the master clense diet... which is water lemon (squeeze in the water) a table spoon of maple syrup, and a table spoon of cayanne pepper.... 3 times a day, with 8 ounces of water...
this is a fasting cleanse so you don't eat for 3-5 days depending.... but it doesn't detox... it just makes you poo and starve... but you lose the weight...I'd recommend TONS of WATER and GREEN VEGGIES.... stick to that for about 2 weeks (qhich is what a detox program calls for) your clean yourself out and be ready for a great start to a new life... P.S. as an added bonus----- you can take the money that you would have spent and go get yourself a colonic...yum.,

QUESTION:
doing juice fast for weight loss? what kind of juice and where to get it?
i want to do a juice fast for weight loss and i was wondering exactly what kind of juice i should get? i cant make any of the juice myself because i do not have a juicer. can i get GOOD juice at the super market? how much can i lose on this? any good recipes? thank you :]-
ANSWER:
Although you may think you can loose weight on a juice fast diet, you are partially right. You may loose 20lbs in 2wks, and you might thinks that is awesome but its all water weight not fat weight. Your body will start "feeding off" your body fat creating ketones which are unhealthy. Not to mention the fact that you will gain all that weight back and maybe even more lbs. For ex. Beyonce did a juice fast diet and lost major lbs and later confessed that she gained double the weight back. If i were you try reducing your carbs and fat, your should loose 1-2lbs/wk in order not to gain any weight back. REmember for each pound you wanna loose you must burn 3500cal.

Weight Loss Results From 30 Dat Juice Or Water Fast?
&& How Would You Make The Juice? Like What Recipes?-
ANSWER:
I dont have a juicer, so i just buy the healthiest juice i can find. Go Google juice recipes.
You wont make a water fast. I give you 3 days and you'd cave. Juice is much easier and you lose lots.
I lost 6 pounds in 3 days, with 1 hour cardio a day.
If you did it for 30 days you'd lose at least 30 pounds unless your already at a low weight, then you'd lose less.

QUESTION:
Whats a reasonable weight loss & How in 1 Year?? Trainers input too!!?
My family and I are going to Hawaii a year from now and I have about 50 pounds to lose as I want this to be my main motivation as I've tried dieting for the longest time and failed. Currently I'm 5'7 and 200lbs, 29 yrs old. I carry all my weight in my thighs and lower stomach area (front and back) I was told 150 is good for my height. Is that true?? My main problem is I work 9-5, I'm a single Mom so I go with convenience, it's so hard to cook for 2 and stay healthy but reasonable for my daughter and I. I need recipes too. (websites are helpful if you know any good ones for small meals) I've already changed from sodas and juices to only water (Yeah me!! lol) I can't seem to find time to work out either as my daughter is in athletic programs that occupy my evenings. Please help with any suggestions, recommendations, etc.
Thanks!!-
ANSWER:
I've lost 50 pounds in this last year. Mainly, I switched from soda to water, increased my water every day to about four 16 oz bottles per day, and cut almost all carbs and sugars from my diet. I'm also a single mom, and I know it's hard to change your own diet when you're responsible for another, but it won't hurt her to cut down on sugar and carbs, either. Cook meat and vegetables for dinner, and eat eggs and bacon for breakfast. It's not that hard, you can even cook omelettes the night before, and just warm them up the next morning.I was told to walk 30 minutes a day, four times a week. I didn't do that much, but I did start walking a little as often as I could. If you're at a soccer game, walk around the field. Park as far away from the gym as you can and walk in. Make a few minutes for yourself in the evenings, and walk around the neighborhood! You can do it!
50 pounds is a very reasonable goal for a year - just keep your thoughts on your goal, and remember that the chocolate cake will still taste as good a year from now - probably even better! And picture yourself on the beach in Hawaii - in a little bitty bikini!! Have fun!

QUESTION:
How can I speed up my weight loss a little?
I've always been over weight (by like 40lbs or so) and I always hated it. However, now that I'm at my heaviest...being 100lbs away from what the doctor says I should weight....i DREAM to be back at my 40lbs overweight.I'm 21 years old and I really want to get in shape. I had terrible eating habits in high school which caused this weight gain. I recently moved out of my house (in October of 2008) and bought a condo with my boyfriend. Since then, my eating has drastically changed. There is no junk food in my house. No chips, no cookies, no soda, no sugary juices. I keep those store-brought veggie platters in the houes at all times so that theres ready-to-eat veggies when I want a snack, and a lot of fruit. And I've been exploring different healthy recipes with chicken.....some vegetarian recipes (I grew up with my mom who is a vegetarian, so I dont really like meat too much)...
Though I've changed my eating, I still wasnt losing weight. And I realized its probably because I get NO exercise. I have a gym membership that I dont use, so I just started using it. From last saturday to this sunday I went 6 times. so 6 out of 9 days.
I want to do this the healthy way. i dont want to go on any fad diets or anything.
HOWEVER, In about 3 weeks i'm going to be seeing this kid I used to go out with in high school. We only went out for about 2 days haha, but we stayed good friends. While I'm VERY happy in my relationship with my current boyfriend (we're talking about marrage), I want to look my best when I catch up with this boy. I dont want him (or any of my friends from those days) to see me like this.I dont have a set amount of pounds that I want to lose in the next 3 weeks. I just want to lose as many as I can..
I can spend 1-2 hours at the gym most days of the week. What do I have to do to get my body to lose as much weight as it can....without doing something crazy like starving myself or going on an all juice diet.
Thanks.

Vegetable Juice Recipes Weight Loss

Vegetable Juice Recipes - The Taste of Pure Nutrition
When we were in our younger years, our parents have always stressed the importance of eating vegetables and the benefits of everything they put on their vegetable juice recipes. We on the other hand, would complain and ask why we cannot have that tasty pizza or chocolate cake for a meal instead.
As we grow older though, we realize how right our mothers were about broccoli, carrots and celery. Today, many diets have incorporated vegetables in their lists of must eat foods. Apart from becoming a major factor in these dieting trends, many recipes about vegetable juicing have also popped out everywhere, thus, giving the health buffs and not so health conscious people an equal chance to enjoy nutritious drinks that are much more appealing to the palate.
Since all of us are required to consume around five servings of veggies each day for optimal health, vegetable juice recipes are great options that we can simply prepare within a busy schedule. The only equipment you need is a proper juicer. There are many tasty vegetable juices that can be done in a jiffy.
Carrot juice is one good example. All you need for this juice is to have around six pieces of baby carrots, half of a green bell pepper, four to six parsley sprigs, half a cucumber and a little honey. Put everything in the juicer after washing and slicing the vegetables and you have a sweet and delicious carrot juice to enjoy.
If you like romaine lettuce, you can whip up a royal romaine juice by mixing in six leaves of romaine lettuce, six baby carrots, half a peeled cucumber, twelve to sixteen pieces of red, seedless grapes and a teaspoon of honey. When you feel ready for a little more, you can also try juicing cabbage.
Cabbages are rich in glucosinolates that are anti-carcinogenic. It may not be tasty at first but you can mix it with carrot juice or other vegetables like broccoli, collard greens and kale. There are also many other things you can mix to produce good tasting vegetables juices. Wheatgrass, kale and carrots make a good combination and so do tomatoes, celery, cucumber and parsley.
These three juicing recipes can be incorporated in your daily diet in order to add more nutrients to what you eat. Juices are great energizers when you feel lethargic and tired and with the ones above, you get more vitamins A and E, beta carotene, potassium and phytonutrients.
As vegetable juice is easily absorbed in the body compared to cooked vegetables, you get more nutrients instantly. Unlike cooking various foods, juicing these vegetables only take very little time. Vegetable juices are best consumed right after they come out of the juicer. If you need to store them for consumption at a later time, choose a container or canning jars or one with a very secure lid to prevent air exposure.
Vegetable juice recipes are usually simple and are also great options for people who intend to lose weight.

Is juicing good for weight loss?
I've heard a lot of wonderful things about juicing; How it helps with overall health, skin, weight loss, and others. Should I juice? I have a good borrowed juicer, I just need more fruits and vegetables. Any good recipes? And are the benefits really that good? I'm thinking about doing a regimen which I will make 3-4 full juices for meals, vegetables and fruits mixed.- ANSWER:
Juicing is great, albeit over expensive and waste full it will aid in weight loss provided the rest of your diet is healthy. don't expect to loose weight by having a smoothie a day and 3 or 4 cheeseburgers. exercises will greatly help if weight loss is your goal. if you are looking to build muscle you need protein. if you are just looking to loose weight have 7-10 (or every 2-3 hrs) 4-6oz juice or veggie shakes per day and do cardio at least 3-4 times a week for 20-30 Min's per session (interval training works if you cant run for extended periods) you don't have to exercises to loose weight but it definitely accelerates the process. avoid excess amounts of pineapple and watermelon as they contain extremely high levels of sugar. stick with berries and veggies since it takes more caloric effort to process them than they contribute they are excellent fat burners. you will still want some complex carbs (oatmeal, rice, granola, whole grain pasta) in your diet otherwise you will feel like a slug all day. if your going to make smoothies use 1% milk. to figure out good recipes just experiment try mixing different fruits and berries till you find your proffered combo. I like broccoli and chocolate flavored protein mixed with water.....lol but i have different goals than most people and i eat 7-8 meals per day consisting of chicken, rice, eggs, pasta and tuna fish plus the broccoli and protein 3 times per day so its really a matter of your personal goals

Diet vegetable juices?
I have a juicer at home, and i am on a diet. I have read about the vegetable juice diet, but i don't think that it's very good for sustainable weight loss.
I want some recipes for vegetable juices or any other diet drinks other than water. I already drink like 2 liters of water as part of my balanced, low-calorie diet. They can include any fruits and vegetables EXCEPT CELERY. I would drink them with a small meal for lunch, so maybe the drink, 1/2 a yellow pepper, 10cm cucumber and 50g hummus.Im 15, 5ft6 and just under 152lb.
Im on a diet for my prom in 2 weeks and i have been dieting for about 1 year, on and off and have lost nearly 20lb. Because it is for prom, it CAN'T make my skin break out or bloat me, my dress is a little tight (hence the diet). Thanks in advance
My question is, can you give me some recipes please- ANSWER:
there is nothing different from eating the vegetables than drinking them.. also you will get good fiber from eating them whole instead of filtering out the veggie muck in your juicer...
fiber helps push out the toxins and stuff in your body... helps you to loose weight..and protein.. dont forget this.. I dont know if you are a vegetarian, but you need protein to fuel your muscles.. and good lean muscles burn more calories than fatty tissues.. so you want to build this up in replacement of the fat tissue.. .. so if you are a vegetarian. get your beans, seeds, and nuts in..

- QUESTION:
I started a juice feast/fast and I don't know if it is working for me or not. Am I doing something wrong?
I am going on day 3 of my juice fast. I bought a good juicer, a big book of juicing recipes and loaded up on tons of veggies and fruit. I am using mostly veggies, but I have a little fruit mixed into some of the drinks to make them more palatable. And once a day I will make a "treat" juice with only fruit. I hate most vegetables (raw tomatoes, celery, plain carrots, onions, peppers, etc.) and rarely eat them. I am trying to get healthier and am trying to get more vegetables in my diet and lose weight in the process. My problem is that every time I drink a juice I want to gag! I try to make combinations that are not too gross. But it doesn't matter. Gross or not, I can't stand any of it! I have to fight to keep it down. I find myself thinking about not drinking anything at all at times because it is so unappealing. I would rather not have juice, than suffering through drinking it. Even though that means I will have nothing in my stomach! Now, I knew going into this that I would get headaches from not having caffeine. But how am I going to get through this fast if I can't stand what little I am allowed to have?! Am I doing something wrong? I haven't had anything but water, fresh veggie and fruit juice. And I am going on day 3, of a 5 day fast. I have a lot of muscle weight and fat on top of it. I weight 175 but I look like I weight like 155. I want to cut down on both fat and some of my muscle so I have a leaner look. I was hoping that this juice fast would get me used to having more veggies and jump start my weight loss. But it seems to be making it even less appealing! And I have only lost 2 lbs. The upsetting thing with that is I knew people who have done this in the past and they lost 14 lbs. within the first 2 days. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else experienced this on a juice fast? What did you do to help you through it?
When I was a teenager I used to go to the gym regularly and lift weights. I have not lost my muscle from back then. But I have gained fat on top of it over the last few years. I went on a normal weight loss diet a few months ago. Started to go back to the gym regularly. Watched what I ate, cut back on junk and sodas, etc. I did that for several weeks. I only lost 5 lbs. That's it. After all of my hard work, only 5 lbs. Needless to say I am very discouraged. I am 28 years old. Does it really have to be this difficult to lose some weight???! If this fast doesn't yield some results, what the heck am I going to do next?- ANSWER:
Nobody drops 14 lbs in 2 days unless they are crapping themselves brainless.

Recipes with no salt, sugar, oils, dairy, or wheat...?
Me and my wife are starting a weight loss program that calls for eating meals devoid of salt (added), sugar, oils, dairy, or wheat. The program lasts for six weeks at which point we will adjust the program depending on our target weight loss. The main fair of the program involves eating specific meats, carbs, vegetables, and fruits at specific times, in specific combinations, and staying away from processed foods as much as possible.
So I'm looking for some recipes I can make that don't rely heavily on salt, sugar, oil, or dairy.
I'm looking for a salad dressing, maybe with a base of white wine vinegar and lemon juice that wouldn't add these things.
Also some sauces that could be cooked with brown rice, chicken, steak, or hamburger/mince.
Some desserts with a fruit base, which lack these additives would be good too. Sorbets and smoothies are obvious, so would be looking for specific recipes for these rather than just the basic idea. ^_^
Anything else would be nice as well. I could simply use recipes that normally call for these things and just remove those components, but I would rather have some that would specifically work well without them, or simply not include them in the first place, though I know that would be relatively rare.
Thank you! ^_^

Workout tips for 16 y/o?
16, female, 5 foot 7 inches, 181lbs. (Fat, I know, I know. At least I'm trying.)I finally saved enough money with my job to afford a treadmill. I used to run at the park but I didn't do it often because I hated going outside and running. Now I have a treadmill inside so I'll be working out more often...any tips?
So far I'm going about 15 mins at 2.5mph each time, and I do that around 10 times a day. According to my treadmill that means I burn around ~600 cals a day. I really want to have my goal around ~1500 cals a day, so I started lifting 5lb weights while I walk, but I don't know how much that is helping. I also brought up the incline on the tredmill a little.
My diet is mostly vegetables, with the bulk of it being white rice (Around 50%) and the rest are steamed vegetables and for one meal a day I eat some meat, usually a little bit of fish. I wrap my rice in seaweed because I like the taste of it...I'm avoiding cooking oils and fats completely so everything is steamed or baked, or toasted.
I'm eating lots of fruits, though. Maybe an apple and some figs, or a few mangoes/avocado on my rice.
I'm only drinking water and maybe once a day a half cup of cranberry juice or the green super food drink that I have in the morning.
I don't go to school so I don't eat the greasy fat foods they serve at schools.Any tips on my regime? I've been doing this for about a week now, no significant weight loss so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or maybe not enough working out.
Any recipes that are mainly rice and vegetables will ago be greatly loved! They don't have to be delicious, just edible.
Wow, I didn't know that about rice!
I'll cut out most of the rice and replace it with just lots of water.
2lb a week should be normal for this workout plan? I lost 1.5lb this week so I guess that's good.
The workout don't really tire me out since I only go for around 15 minutes each, and I usually do something like listen to music or watch TV while I'm walking....
Thanks Dave H,I'm taking protien supplements once a day, but at the same time I'm trying to avoid all the chemicals I hear are in store-bought meat. My dad is a fisherman so I do eat wild fish at least once a day...other than that I don't really like how red meat tastes so I don't eat it much.
I do try to keep my protein intake up with the supplements, since I know I need it. I also take coral calcium tablets which I believe has soy protein in it as well.- ANSWER:
The first thing I noticed is "I'm avoiding cooking oils and fats", you got the wrong idea here. Your body needs fats and there's a big differenc between processed fats and healthy fats. Health fats are things like nuts and eggs, and you need to be adding this into your diet. I know it's dense in calories, which is why to stick to your calorie limit (I hope it isn't below 1200? alot of people do that, bad idea) you'll need to cut out some of your white rice to allow it. White rice is high GI by the way, it's better for your weightloss to get your carbs from brown rice or wholegrains. It suprises alot of people, but the healthiest way to diet is to really strictly limit your carbohydrate intake (keep it around 50-100g a day) and fill up the rest of your calorie limit with protein and healthy fats. Try and eat a fruit/vegetable with every meal too. With the amount of activity you're doing, on a 1200-1500 calorie balanced diet, I'm sure you'll lose plenty of weight, I'd predict 2lb of body fat per week, which is a nice healthy amount. Be patient, don't go into a crazy 500 calorie diet like alot of people do, and you'll reach your goal, good luck.

If this fast doesn't yield some results, what the heck am I going to do next?- ANSWER:
every once and awhile i'll do a 10 day juice fast. some juice is harder to get down then the others. even if the recipe doesn't call for it, i usually throw in a couple fruits. usually an apple. sometimes you just have to hold your nose and chug it. but try different recipes until you find some that you like. they are out there. and the people that lose that much weight in such little time were either men or they just had more water to lose. don't be discouraged. keep with it.and i always drink it over ice. it taste better cold

Good Healthy Drinks

Adhd Alternate Treatments - Don't Underestimate the Impact of Diet on Adhd Children
A child who suffers from ADHD is hyperactive and diet significantly influences their behavior as well as the severity of the symptoms. Investigate on your own the relationship between certain food stuffs and your ADHD child's actions, keeping track of them so you can determine what things they eat that causes the worst reactions.
Eventually you can prepare a good food menu for your child. Unfortunately, many parents with ADHD children are not aware that diet for ADHD children plays an important part in their behavior and that there are lots of resources such as menus to better manage ADHD children.
Some of you may ask "Is there a menu good for ADHD children?" Hence, the following is a checklist of dietary things to do and not to do when preparing diet for children with ADHD :
DONTS:
1. Do not give them foods which use chemical preservatives and additives.
2. Don't use diary products, so yogurt, ice cream, milk and the like must not be eaten.
3. No sugary drinks or carbonated beverages like soda.
4. Fruit juices should not be given as well, these are usually high in sugars.
5. Don't consume junk food which has all the problems of processed foods. They are not good for any of us really, but even more so for the ADHD child
6. Cut down on the amount of sugar consumed by the child, and make sure to watch very closely how much they do have. Why not substituting a healthy snack such as a apple or raisins as opposed to a chocolate barc
7. Cook only fresh meat, and do not give them prepared meat as these usually are loaded with chemical preservatives and additives.
8. No any fried products like chips etc.
9. Make sure your child doesnt snack in between meals, otherwise he will spoil his appetite.
10. Dont try and force or browbeat your child into eating healthy foods, try and talk with them. If you take a forceful stance, the child will in all probability rebel and become even more belligerent.
DOS:
1. Buy organic products. They tend to be without the chemicals and pesticides used in ordinary food and the increased amount of chemicals present in these items are not beneficial for anyone!
2. Make sure that plenty of water is drank every day.
3. Make sure that they eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
4. Make available plenty of different of foods, this option to choose what to eat will encourage your child to enhance his diet and get to discover new things.
5. Use supplements to give them a boost, but always make sure to consult with your doctor before engaging in this practice.
6. Nourish your child using flax seed or primrose oil. Also seriously consider high-level sources of Omega oils; borage oils and some fish oils are excellent sources.
Add a small amount a day into foods as you make them, or add to salad dressings, etc.
7. Don't forget to inspirit your ADHD child for their commitment to giving up the itemssnacks they like most.
And lastly, consider changing your diet as well. We as parents should always set a positive example and it is far easier to get your child to do something if you're doing it as well. They do always look up to us (whether we ant them to at the time or not) and we can alleviate a huge part of their objections if we do it as well.
Who knows; it may make "you" feel better as well.

TV Stands, Cabinets And Wall Brackets - The Options
To complete the purchase of your plasma or LCD TV, you have to acquire a system to store and display the television. Although many existing entertainment centers will not be suitable for housing a new plasma TV, there are a variety of affordable, practical yet beautiful ways to use wall brackets to mount the TV on the wall in a den or living room.
When it comes to displaying or mounting your TV, an LCD glass TV stand is an option you can consider. This display features a glass top, and also comes with shelves that may be used for storage and display. Glass Plasma television stands are not the best option for a home with children, as they might accidentally break the glass while playing, and either injure themselves or break the television.
A wooden Plasma television stand is more suitable for homes with children. Wood makes an ideal stand for a plasma TV as it is extremely durable. This contributes to a safer environment in households with active youngsters.
In addition to the traditional TV stand, many entertainment centers are now designed to hold LCD and plasma TVs. It doesn't matter the kind of furniture you have you always have to measure your television and make sure it fits in the space you have.
An alternative to furniture pieces for your TV is a wall mount. Mounting your TV on the wall should be done only with special plasma TV wall mounting brackets, or LCD TV wall mounts that have been designed to support the heavy weight of the television
Make sure that the mounts for the plasma TV has the capacity to suspend the weight of the TV, otherwise, your TV might fall and damage itself and the wall. If at all possible, Television mounts should be attached to the wall studs. However, if this is not possible, you can use drywall anchors to prevent the mounts from falling off the wall once the TV is attached.
When selecting the proper TV wall brackets for a plasma set, the wall construction along with the TV's heft are factors to consider. In addition, consumers ought to become familiar with the wide array of LCD wall brackets on the market now. In one such instance, numerous individuals decide upon the brackets that are equipped with a movable arm that is connected to the television due to the fact that they will have the convenient capability of altering the angle of the television whenever they so desire.
You will not be at a loss to find a stand or storage cabinet for your new plasma or LCD TV. LCD TV furniture, plasma TV wall brackets, and LCD TV wall mounts are all feasible and hip options for someone who has a plasma screen or LCD television.
Bathroom Wall Mounted Cabinets
Bathroom Waste Receptacles
In order to provide customers with a clean bathroom, having adequate waste receptacles are key. There are plenty of styles to choose from so you can find what will work best with your commercial restroom. There are models available that can have trash cans below sinks, mounted to a wall, or that stand alone in a location that suits each individual restroom. Commercial waste receptacles are designed to match other bathroom appliances to create an elegant flow throughout the restroom.
Stainless Steel Waste Dispensers
Stainless steel trash cans that are circular can be mounted on the sink area to give customers an easy location that restricts the visibility of the trash. Commercial restrooms that don't have a lot of hall or wall space can take advantage of the small amount of space that a circular waste chute requires. Waste chutes near the sink also promote proper trash disposal from customers due to its handy location.
Recessed | Wall Mounted | Semi-Recessed Models
Recessed, semi-recessed, and surface mounted stainless steel waste receptacles are available in various sizes that have different gallon capacities. For those that want a different surface than the common stainless steel, there are models available with a color laminate in many different shades that will certainly match your restroom's color scheme.
Push Door Waste Receptacles
Commercial garbage cans can be bought with or without lids. Doors and lids can help create a more sterile appearance by hiding it from plain view. The stainless steel surface of the trash can and lid is easily maintained by periodically wiping it down with bathroom cleaners. The sleek satin finish stainless steel waste receptacles match other commercial bathroom appliances to tie everything in together.
Large and Small Waste Dispensers
Surface mounted stainless steel garbage cans are available in different gallon capacities to be able to fit in the amount of space you have available. The stainless steel material trash cans are perfect for commercial bathrooms since they are strong enough to handle high traffic areas that may be prone to vandalism. They can be easily found for customers, which results in more people throwing away their trash in the designated area rather than being left on the floor or sink.
Disposal Units
Waste receptacles that aren't mounted to the wall, but are instead placed anywhere that is a convenient location within your bathroom come in different sizes to accommodate both the accessible space and to be able to hold the typical amount of waste the bathroom generates. Swing tops are offered with certain models to keep away unappealing scents and trash visibility from the public.
Clean | Sanitary | Low Maintenance Receptacles
No matter what type of commercial bathroom waste receptacle you need, you're guaranteed to find the perfect fit with the selection that's offered. Even bathrooms that don't have a lot of open space will have plenty of options with the many different sizes and surface designs to choose from. Frequently Asked Questions
- QUESTION:How hard is it to replace a cheap bathroom cabinet to a nicer, oak one?
I currently live in a mobile home and am trying to improve it cheaply, since I'm planning to sell it with in the next 5 years. I recently scored a very nice oak bathroom cabinet for free, but am unsure how to go about installing it. Obviously I need to remove my current one, but the oak one is about 1/2 inch shorter than my current one, and I already have the counter top in place. Can I do something to raise the new cabinets without making it look like crap? (Countertop is attached to 3 walls).- ANSWER:Cut & install a 1/2" furring strip to attach to base of cabinet. After installing trim around base with some nice shoe mould or cove moulding.
- QUESTION:Cheap / easy ways to update an older rental house?
i am renting a house that is a bit outdated.. i was wondering if anyone has any quick fix ideas for the outdated kitchen (ugly cabinets/appliances/no dishwasher), floors (blue carpet/vinyl tile) and bathrooms (PINK wall / floor tiles), wood panel wainscoting....the landlord said we can do whatever we want as long as we pay for.. the rent is so cheap i dont mind putting a little money into it because i will be here for awhile. in your opinion where should we spend the money to get the most for it (looks wise)? any ideas would be greatly appreciated! thanks!- ANSWER:Afew years ago my husband and I rented an old farmhouse that was very rundown. Same situation for us, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted as long as we paid for it. (we didn't have much money either) My advice is to paint, paint, paint everything! So many things can be painted. You will probably have to use oil based paint not latex (water based). Where I live WalMart carries these great area carpets that are quite large and are only . Also peel and stick tiles can cover up an ugly back splash, bathroom walls and other floors. They are cheap and super easy to install. Unfortunately with old houses once you start working on them you discover nasty little(and big) surprises. My advice is to just make it liveable and if the rent is cheap and you are going to be there for awhile you might as well fix it up a little and enjoy the place. At least you will be able to have company over and not be embarrased! We did break down and buy some new and used appliances but at least we can take them with us (same with the area carpets). Good luck!
- QUESTION:How much is my bathroom vanity worth?
I'm replacing an older bathroom vanity and would like to sell the older vanity (cabinets with drawers and silver knobs), the counter top (cheap white top), porcelain sink, faucet (moen - less than year old), medicine cabinet with three mirrors, and the wall lights (8-10 bulbs that hang over the mirror on the wall). How much should I sell this for on Craigs list?
- ANSWER:A good measure is between 25%-50% of the original purchase price. Keep in mind that the demand for such an item may or may not be high. Check your local craigslist and those of other cities to see if there are any similar products up for sale and how much they are asking for.
Make sure you add pictures to your craigslist listing as this will help sell your product.

- QUESTION:how much does a new bathroom cost if you do some of the work?
I'm looking to put in a cheap bathroom in a finished in carport, but to code-so I'll need a contractor to do some of the work-plumbing/wiring. I saw a toilet at lowes for ,rv shower on ebay for 0,already have a light fixture, walltile, paint, outletboxes. I was thinking about doing just toilet and shower(no cabinets etc) in bathroom and having the contractor put in drain/water for a free standing stainless steel kitchen sink/countertop from ikea(around 0-its not a huge room-no need for 2 sinks). I can do painting and drywall myself. To deal with the cement floor-my idea is set the shower up a couple inches to allow room for the drain pip to run under and through the wall up against the house into the basement. I guess water lines can be run above in attic and down.
What do you think this will cost in contractors labor and material costs not described.
Thank you.- ANSWER:Don't "guess" what you can do with your plumbing - figure it out with a professional, because this will make or break your project, and if you need to dig into the concrete this will completely change the job. I don't mean to seem unresponsive but you need to start with first things first.

Now, it seems to me you are looking to: #1 get out of your lease, #2 get your landlord in trouble. If all you said is true, some of these things were apparent when you looked at the apt before renting it. So why did you rent it? Bare wires? Porch bad, No steps? You are as much to blame for renting it with such obvious problems.
Numbers 7,12,13 would scare the heck out of me and I would be finding somewhere else to live VERY quickly. These can short and cause a fire at any time.
If your city requires a city inspector to approve rental properties, call them and get them out there to look at all the electrical and structural damages. But I warn you, the city might decide right then and there to condemn the property and you would have to move out overnite. They will not give you a few days to move out.
This property sounds like a shack with no upkeep. Get out of there now before it burns down around you.

- QUESTION:Pain in right wrist after hitting bathroom door, help?
I know I am an idiot and got anger issues, put that aside, I have a habit of hitting walls and doors in a stamping down/banging on the wall motion. Its hard to explain, but its so that my pinky down to under the left side of my wrist would hit the wall/door. So I have been doing it a lot for years with minor pain for maybe 5 minutes, but in the past three days i've done it three times, twice on a cheap wooden cabinet door which broke and finally on the hard wooden bathroom door which hardly was scratched. So its been about 3 hours now since the bathroom door and i kept feeling a tingling sensation on my right hand but in the past 30 minutes everything I am doing with the right hand is causing pain and discomfort in the wrist. There is no inflammation or swelling, and I looked up symptoms of a fractured/broken wrists and it doesn't seem to be it. I took some Advil 500 MG about 2 hours ago and the pain is still there.
What could be wrong? Should I just go to sleep and wait till tomorrow to see if the pain worsens? If does worsen what could I be looking at? Fractured wrist? Does that require surgery to fix? What if I leave it like it is?
- ANSWER:Your just an angry little f u c k who hates life - get a sk8board
- QUESTION:My 1800's era apartment has ceiling leaks and I am tired of it. Help!?
I have lived in my current apartment for almost two years. It is a old building from the late 1800's. About 7 months ago the kitchen ceiling in my apartment had a leak from a pipe in a corner. My lousy building manager didn't even believe me when I told him about the leak. When the plumber came to fix it the wet logged ceiling tile came tumbling down along with leaving a gaping hole in the corner of the ceiling. You could literally see upstairs into the next apartment. The plumber replaced the pipe with some cheap looking rubber hose which threads through the ceiling. The cheap rotted wooden slats also fell down and the wood has a huge hole in it. The landlord just replaced the drop ceiling tile, but did not plaster up the hole underneath it. When you come into my kitchen you can't tell how bad the ceiling is because of the drop ceiling hiding all the damage. Now it is months later and I have a kitchen ceiling leak again. Except in a different corner. Directly beneath my upstairs neighbors bathroom. I don't know if it is them dripping out of the shower on the floor again or another pipe leak. For several months the pipes have been making a drumming noise every time someone upstairs would turn on the water. These pipes look to be made of rubber tubing, not the pipes you would see in the bathroom. The cheap looking pipes actually thread through my ceiling upstairs and are exposed when you remove the drop ceiling tile. In addition, my living room and bedroom have cracks in the wall and ceiling, which are probably from the foundation settling. This building was built as a business establishment, not made to be apartments. This building can't handling all this activity. It needs to be professionally renovated and restored. The landlord just put a bandaid on it and made it look good from the outside. I hate this apartment. I don't want to go through this again with having another leak. It left huge ugly water stains on my ceiling and I had to beg the landlord to replace the tile. The landlord supposedly spent ,000 on renovations. He just basically put in new cabinets and a new refrigerator, he surely didn't update the ceiling, walls, bathroom. My bathroom doesn't even have a electrical outlet in it. I don't know what to do? My lease is up in a few months. but I don't have money for a security deposit to move. Do prospective landlords allow tenants to move in without a deposit? I have to get out of the hell pit. Please help!- ANSWER:File a complaint with your building inspector and the dept of health on code violations. If filing a complaint with the health inspector does nothing, then you may want to consider moving or taking legal action against your landlord (I would consult an attorney for this).
- QUESTION:Cheap/good quality for remodeling. Any help would be great!! Please?
For home improvement. And, I'm talking about everything. Floors, walls, even door knobs, lol.
I don't want a big list of things, unless you want to
But I'm just curious if anyone knows well in this field, if they have some good tips.
I was wondering what is the cheapest but best quality of something you would buy. We are updating our house, to sell in a few years, we can't afford to sell it now. We want to update it, for our comfort as well to our liking, because we live here. It's a two story house, we are (thinking) of making it into a duplex.
I was wondering if anyone had any pointers. The cheapest/best quality thing you would buy for the floors and walls and all.We are getting nice, hardwood flooring for our house, and I have been looking around for the best deals. So, if anyone knows any cheap places, that'd be great! Also, do you know the best time of year certain things are sold for the best price?
We are wanting everything from cabinet knobs, cabinets, everything, appliances, new bathroom.I have a blue tub in our bathroom, I don't like it, but it seems like it would be difficult to take it out, as well as everything else. My husband has a bad back, and there's not too much I can do. We have 4 kids, and financially we're looking for the best deals.
I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm trying to figure out a way to explain that I'm looking for EVERYTHING, and quality DOES count. I doubt I'll get much input, but it'd be great to get an idea of something. We want a beautiful home, but right now, honestly it depresses me a little. No matter what decorations I put up, it doesn't feel like a home...Thank you tons!!
Autumn, the reason I just left it up to whatever someone wants to put is, because I have written specifics (which seemed like a book) and I didn't have much input that I didn't already have in mind. I had people telling me cheap isn't good, and I know that cheap CAN be good, depending on what it is. Thank you!!
- ANSWER:Hi Mommy 2 Four,
I get it
) You want the Look for Less and Yes it can be accomplished! Of course this will not happen over night but you can pull it all together.
First things first,
Oops Paint can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe's and your Local Hardware store for a fraction of the original prices. They are usually returns, customer thought they wanted that color, they did not the store refunds and resells the paint. Oops paint can be purchased at such a HUGH savings usually or less a quart and to 15 for a gallon. Most all are famous names and top quality that had sold for 20 to 35 and so on.
Check for Home Selvage stores for replacing cabinetry hardware. Also a can of spray paint over the old knobs will work and save you costs.
Appliances: Used appliance stores in your area. After the holidays because of sales. But* if you purchase before the holidays at the end of the year this can be a tax deduction from sales taxes paid. If you buy new always look for rebates, but you know this already
) Weather strip and Home Insulation are tax breaks too.
Blues in the Bathroom: sometime you have to live with it. And maybe you can grow to semi love it. Its just a tub you have bigger things to focus on
) Use color to decorate around the blue.
Important : Make a list of everything room by room both needed and wanted. ( expect this to change as time goes on ) And keep it real of how much you can and will accomplish in a certain amount of time. Both financially, physically and weather allowed for. When you start completing these tasks one by one you will start to feel as though you are owning this home and it is not owning you,.
Making friends with your home, a place you live is important and sometimes for some reason is difficult. Once you start completing the projects, placing your own thumb prints on your home the way you view and the changes you feel will come into place.
Many Good wishes for you and your family!
- ANSWER:Hi Mommy 2 Four,
- QUESTION:Trying to up the value of our not-so-great home?
Hi, My husband and I are living in his parents house. (They have 2) We are a family of 6, with one low income. My husband does not make good money, and it'd cost more in childcare expenses if I worked right now. We are remodeling this house, because when we do, we'll be able to sell it and get this property we've been wanting to get. We just can't do it on our own yet. We are getting Stainless appliances in the Kitchen, we already have an 05 Stainless Dishwasher, and plan to buy a brand new Stove and Fridge this year. In our kitchen, we are putting hardwood flooring in. We have panelling with wallpaper, Right now, I am stripping the wall paper off, because it looks better without it. (I don't know the best way to strip wallpaper off either) My husband wants to take out the panelling, but with everything going on, I don't picture us getting to that this year. We are in No rush, but want it as fast as we can get it done. Was also wondering how well would Black go with Stainless steel? Like to have a Black Fridge or stove, and everything else stainless??? We are wanting to get new faces for the cabinets, because the cabinets themselves are fairly good, and I'm not sure, but I think it'd be cheaper to just get new faces? The cabinet doors are outdated, and the faces are a little rough, so we would definitely like to get new ones. I am going to get new door knobs soon. With our livingroom, we have hardwood floors, hardwood walls, and a wooden door, so we will not be painting in here at all. We have a built-in book shelf, and a closet that could use some fixing up, but I'm not that worried about it, should I be? We are getting two ceiling fans in here, and we have 6 windows. Can't think of anything else to say on the livingroom.
Our bathroom has a blue tub, and instead of replacing the tub (because we also have to replace the toilet, and sink) I was thinking we could just make the bathroom to match the tub. I mean, right now I have it matched. The walls are yellow (were that way before I moved here) And, I have found several different shower curtains that actually blended well. What color should I paint the walls in here? It's an old bathtub. This whole house was last updated in the 70s, I believe. What's a good, easy to install floor to put in here? We definitely need a new floor. And, as long as it's good quality, we would prefer a cheaper bathroom floor, but if we must, we'll get more expensive. Right now, I have the bathroom matching the tub, it doesn't look cheap or anything, it actually blends well. I just don't know what color I could paint the walls.
We have paneling in the dining room, and my husband would like to put carpet in there instead of hardwood floors, what color (neutral) would go best in the diningroom? We don't want to turn the new buyers away with a snowy white carpet, or a terrible carpet. I'm trying to figure out a nice-friendly color for the carpet. There is a pantry, needs new doors.
Our outside, we are thinking about putting a new pathway, if we can afford it. It isn't too bad, but not great either. We have put a new flowerbed in this year, and are going to paint the front porch. We are going to pressure wash the house this year, it hasn't been pressure washed in a long time, and I want it done. I don't know if we should do it again in a couple years when we are done and decide to sell, or not. We keep the yard decent. And, we know to keep our house clutter-free, and clean.
Right now, I'm looking for something cheap we could do that would up the value of the house, make it look nicer, etc. We are not going to use any cheap runarounds to make something half way decent, we want to make something 100%, if we can do something cheaper, with good quality, we'd love to. But right now, I'm looking for things under we could do to up the value of the house. And we'll get to the big stuff later! Thanks!!
We are painting all the bedrooms a solid neutral color, fixing all the holes in the walls. And, everything we do is NOT going to be a cheap-runabout, unless it's a good quality cheap.
We have a two story house, with two bathrooms. We have two livingrooms, etc. Thought about doing a duplex. Any ideas?
Erin-We don't have cable
We just watch movies, I love Better Homes and Gardens and magazines like that though.- ANSWER:Ok- this is a LOT of info!
I would start by watching HGTV, there are shows about people buying and selling homes- Curb appeal, house hunters, my first place...etc. There are also shows that give you help on fixing things on a budget. Some of them are decorating shows, which really is not what you need- you need renovation help, the beef of the home, if you will. But you might find some ideas in there.
I would suggest going to a local tile distributor to re-floor your bathroom. do NOT choose laminate no matter what you do! you can ask for a closeout price on some out of stock tile, maybe there isn't enough, fine, mix two! you can get nice quality tile for around per square foot. I went somewhere the other day and their closeout for sale tile was 90 Cents per sq. foot for a basic white tile. You cannot beat that!!!! I would not suggest Lowes/homedepot but you should shop around and see what you find.
For the tub, have you heard of Bathfitter? its cheaper than replacing the whole tub. or if you got a lot of that closeout tile, go on the internet and learn how to install tile, maybe pull the tub out and make a standup shower, with all tile!! that would look great and very helpful to making you more money. my cousin had her hubby install a tile standup shower. looks great and he had no experience in laying tile before. i would not keep a blue tub.to remove wallpaper, use steam. if you must, rent a steamer! it will save you time! I always look online for tutorials for how to do things. you can google "remove wallpaper" and you will find tips, videos, and tricks for doing it yourself.
for the dining room, i understand not wanting it with wood floors and walls, but i would not do carpet... i would suggest tile again.
check the net, and those coupon books that always come in the mail for discounts. i think recently i saw an ad for a few hundred dollars savings on cabinet refacing. if you have power tools, why not sand down your doors, get all new hardware(including hinges) and re-do them yourself? you can sand and restain or even paint.
I understand why you want to update your home to make more money... but will you make more than you are spending? I would consult with a realtor or someone who can help you make those decisions. I am the type of person who hates neutral walls, i hate ugly tiles, i hate blue tubs, i hate laminate countertops... etc etc. BUT i am an interior designer, and my little voice inside says "get a fixer upper!!" i would much prefer to get a home like yours and re-do it myself than think that the person before me just re-did a bunch of stuff and now i am going to rip it all out and waste their time and money. plus why would i want to pay more for a home like that. thats double waste!! i wouldnt use your brand new fridge, etc so then i would have to re-sell it somewhere and not get all the money you just paid for it?
ever thinking of just selling it as a fixer-upper? as long as you make it look nice and fix anything that is glaringly obvious- such as holes in walls or roof leaks... the cosmetic stuff is going to be changed by the new owners probably 80 percent of the time! if not immediately, then likely within 5 years.

- QUESTION:How to remodel your house on a very tight budget?
We are on a very very tight budget. I'm not sure of a number, but it's slim. We need new flooring, fix holes in the walls, new cabinets and countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms....new windows...replace molding and trim...paint...as well as fix our fence out in the backyard and do some landscaping in front and back yard, fix our garage door and level out our driveway...any suggestions? We can do it ourself, but whats the cheapest way to get what we need- ANSWER:Make a plan for the next year-- this will make you feel better about the small budget and help you spread cost over time. Organize the list into priorities -- safety issues such as electrical work should go first, boring as it is. Don't start a full kitchen remodel -- look around for ways to update instead (paint, refacing cabinets, new hardware, new countertop and sink, etc) --- will that get you by for a few years. Same with the floor. What are your priorities and where do you spend the most time? Forget new windows, as they are expensive. Shore up what you have and focus on other projects that will give you more bang for the buck.
Here are some general costs-- to give you an idea:

- QUESTION:Updating an old, but nice beat-up home?
My husband and I are living in his parents house. They have two of them, and we are in a different one from where they are living. Anyhow, we have been fixing it up, trying to make it really nice. When we fix it up, they are planning to sell it. We don't have that much money, and his parents are helping with the fixing up and all, but they've done so much for us, we'd like to really get it nice. Plus, there's a property we're planning on buying, and they'll be able to help us if they sell this house.I would like to know some cheaper things we could do to update the house on a budget. I know that it would be easier if we had an explanation of what the house looked like, and all, but I honestly don't know what to put, everything about the house I can think of is expensive, and I'll have to get to later on. There's wall paper, panelling in the kitchen, my husband wants to get that out. Paint, new floors, holes in the walls, new cabinet doors, new bathroom everything! We've been thinking about making the bathroom bigger (eventually) I would like to get some new cabinet door knobs, and small stuff like that starting now. This house was last updated, it looks like the 70s. And, half of the wall paper in the kitchen is stripped off. The person living here before us took the flooring off. And was going to put cheap tile on, but never did. So, basically everything that's been done to this house within the past 20 years has been half-ass. And it kind of irks me a little bit. Everyone who's lived here has treated it poorly, including my husband who now realizes he was an idiot.
Jk. We just put in a flower bed.I know you don't have much detail, but any suggestions on making it nicer with our small budget?
Also, my mother-in-law has been thinking about making it into a duplex (it's a two story home) She would actually love to do that, and we think it's a great idea. But I was looking for some suggestions on making it a duplex. My husband can do all the work, but he won't start until we have it all together, of course.
With the big stuff, we are planning on using our taxes to work on the actual house, I was just trying to think of small things that'll make a big difference! Thanks!! Yeah, we are planning on working on our pathway. And, my husband has a pressure washer at work, he is going to do it sometime soon. We aren't selling the house yet. It will probably take a couple years to get everything for it. We've already started on appliances for the kitchen. It's going to be stainless steel, black, and I've got red towels and stuff. We do have a blue tub, I was thinking about keeping it, and just painting/matching the bathroom to the tub. It's a perfectly good tub, just not up to date. My husband knows how to fix this place up, but there are some things "I" would like to do.
I'm wanting cheap things I could do, and when we get the money, I'm planning on buying paint, etc. Thanks all!!
We have hard wood floor in our livingroom, we have natural wood walls in our livingroom. Our kitchen, we our planning on buying hardwood, specifically, because it does make the value go up, and we like it better. We are thinking about putting carpet in the dining room. Or, my husband wants it. We want to do everything to get it looking better than it does, but we can't do the expensive stuff yet, we have four kids, and my husband is the only one working, because of that. Thanks!!- ANSWER:Anytime you move walls (to expand say the bathroom), you get into the "not cheap things you can do to update the house" bucket. Some inexpensive fixes:
1) Curb appeal - Since you are fixing to sell, make sure the yard looks good. Glad you put in a garden--that's a great start but how does the exterior (siding?) of the house look? How about the walkways? Repair any cracks and rent a power washer if necessary to clean up the exterior and any porches or decking if necessary. Keep the grass mowed and the bed weeded. Add some fresh mulch and seasonal flowers (mums?) in pots and put them on the front porch to welcome would be buyers.
Paint the front door to give it a new fresh look. (Remember to choose a color that is universal - black or white, or that somehow ties to the exterior colors - like maybe the shutters?)
Don't forget to address exterior lighting. It is amazing how an outdated or undersized light fixture can really date the home. You can replace these rather inexpensively and give the house a fresh look.
2) Walls - Repair any holes and definitely remove or paint over paneling. The older paneling looks really really bad and cheap. If you don't have the $ to replace the paneling, consider using a filling putty to fill the grooves in each board, sand, then paint. Filling the grooves addresses that "hey I painted over my paneling" look at a fraction of the cost of new sheet rock or plaster. REMOVE ALL WALLPAPER.
Paint - Paint the interior a nice neutral color. In trying to sell, it is often an advantage if the walls are all painted the same color. You don't have to do this but it truly does help in making the home appear a bit larger and flow better. Make sure all the paint is fresh - walls, trim and ceiling. A bit of painting makes a HUGE impact.
Floors - If you can remove and replace flooring go for it. If not, make sure your carpets are steam cleaned before any showings. People love wood flooring but that can be expensive. If you go the route of a laminated wood flooring, do so knowing that some people will be okay with it and others will view any type of laminate as a "fake" material. For the kitchen, you can go with a nice ceramic (shop this -- the prices now are really low, you'll be sure to get a good deal.) and most people like ceramic because it is not a synthetic version of a more expensive material.
Cabinets - You say you are replacing the doors and if you can't afford new cabinets, sometimes the "fronts" are a good economical alternative. Another option is to paint what you have, providing the quality of the cabinets is pretty decent. Finally, depending on the size of the kitchen, you could consider freebie cabinets. Go to Craigslist.org for your town and check things out there. Sometimes people remodel their kitchens and have really good quality cabinets (maybe in a finish they no longer like) that can be refinished or painted to look fabulous. I've seen people list them for free just "u haul" on Craigslist several times. It might be worth a look.
Definitely update the hardware. A subtle change like new knobs can really make the difference.
Bathroom - A new sink, vanity, faucet, mirror and lighting can make a huge difference that isn't necessary expensive. If your bath/shower surround is tiled in an old fashioned tile color (pink, turquoise, etc), consider having a professional re-glaze or paint the tile. It is a much cheaper alternative to replacing the tile and saves a ton of time.
Lighting - Lighting throughout the entire house should be looked at. Old fashioned chandeliers and ceiling mounted lights can really date a house. They can be replaced for something with more modern styling pretty inexpensively.
One final note on when you actually list the home for sale - - Make absolutely sure the home is CLEAN and CLUTTER-FREE for any and all showings. At this point in time, you should have already thought about packing up and moving so move as much extraneous stuff out of the house as possible. (extra furniture, kitchen gadgets, overflowing linen and clothing closets, etc.). People will look in your cabinets and closets and if they are chock-full of stuff, you send a message to the buyer that the house is too small to store their stuff. Best of Luck.
- ANSWER:Anytime you move walls (to expand say the bathroom), you get into the "not cheap things you can do to update the house" bucket. Some inexpensive fixes:
- QUESTION:What should we do with cheap paneling?
We are redoing our house and running out of money. We have redone the kitchen including getting cabinets resurfaced, a new tile floor, removal of old wallpaper and installing wainscoting and painting and sponging the walls. It looks great! We gutted the downstairs bathroom and redid the entire thing - looks great! Now we are working on our hallway and living room. In our house, you walk from the kitchen cross the hallway and into the living room. If you turn left at the kitchen doorway, you go down the hall to the bedroom or bathroom. If you turn right, you go up the stairs which does not have a door on it, it's a open staircase with the railing viewed from the living room. Upstairs, their is cheap paneling. It's not real wood, but that panelboard stuff that looks like wood. It was put up, probably by the original owners, and they did a poor job of it. Instead of putting up solid sheets of this paneling, they cut it in pieces and slapped it up there. You can see the paneling from the downstairs as you cross the hall to get into the living room and my husband wants to fix it somehow. There is nothing behind the paneling but the studs.
I do not want to take it down, not only because of the mess, but because of the expense. It would also delay the finishing of the house because it would lead to more work upstairs which I was not counting on
- ANSWER:Running out of money before the job is done is the pits.
Make a list of all the ideas you have to correct the problem. Add a price to each one.
When you look at the list you will see all the ideas except the best one, removal and install sheet rock, are a waste of money. Your improvements already made are going to seem undone as long as you do not do something to that paneling. If you can not afford to correct it don't bother wasting money on a half-as* job. Save and do the job right. You will be glad you did.

- QUESTION:I need to think up of 31 chores, help?
I got vaccuming stairs (up+down), basement, tvs, kitchen counter, microwave, sweeping, bathroom(up+down) living room, office, cabinets(up+down), doors, windows(up+down), brush dog, fridge, fans, bathtub, bathroom walls(up+down), dishes, and vaccum hallways on my list. Some are abl to be repeated. I kicked down my front door and needed to do 100 chores, but i said i'll remove some if i get nothing for my BDay in 2 weeks and i don't really want anything, so i have to do 50 total. I got 29 on a list. I'm 13, have a 2 story house, and need some quick cheap chores to do. Not too cheap, like the ones i got on my list. I'm more than 1/2 way through, but need some help. The more you do, the less you have to choose from. I've done all 29 chores in 3 hours, so basically i should be done in 2 days of working and thinking of chores, then i plan on bowling 'cause it's what i do. If you know how to give points to more than 1 person, let me know. Because if everyone gives in ideas everyone should be awarded.
Someone noticed math error, i need 21 everybody, that makes me feel much better now that there's 10 less than i thought. Never noticed that, so much for honor roll and calculus, but everyone makes mistakes. I heard 9th grade is most difficult, hope i can work on my addition and subtraction by then.
Michigan by the way, we just got shit load of snow.- ANSWER:How about math homework? 29 from 50 means you have 21 left, not 31.
- QUESTION:what type of legal action should be taken in this situation?
my parents hired a contractor to remodel the kitchen and bathroom in their condo in florida. the contractor pushed my parents to sign the contract so he could start the work, and it has all gone downhill from there. here's the situation:1.) the contract states that the work would be done by february 2010. it is now the end of june, and the work is nowhere near finished because the contractor shows up to work for MAYBE 10 hours a week.
2.) the top of the contract has the contractor's name and contracting license number. i went to florida's state website where they have a search engine where you can search by license number or name. i searched by both, and the name is not associated with any license number, and the license number he has was never issued.
3.) on the contract, my parents listed the exact product names, numbers, stores, prices and everything of the products they wanted in the kitchen and bathroom, such as faucets, mirrors, sinks, etc. and the contractor said that he would get them. he hasn't gotten any of the right materials. for example, the bathroom medicine cabinet that my parents wanted was 0 at home depot, mirrored inside and out with a stainless steel box. the mirror that the contractor bought (and we checked it after we saw it) was .97 at home depot, only a mirror on the outside, plastic box, and about 4-5 inches too small for the hole in the wall.
4.) my parents paid him ,000 up front, and have given him about ,000 more as some work was completed, but somehow he "doesn't have the money" to finish the job, even while he's buying the cheap version of everything
5.) his work is complete crap and a 7th grader in shop class could do better. all the kitchen cabinets are messed up, none of the handles are level...or even the same for that matter, even though they told him, and SHOWED HIM, exactly which handles to get. the glass for the cabinet doors is only held in with a thin line of silicon and no clips, and there's silicon smeared all over the glass. it's just completely awful.
6.) and on top of all of this, he stole my dad's ipod. like, it was on the table, we left, he was there, we came back, he was gone, it was gone. we searched the house, it's nowhere to be found.
i'm just wondering, what type of legal actions can be taken in this situation? i hate seeing my parents scammed by this freakin' con artist, especially because the extra money they're using to fix all of his mistakes is coming out of my college fund. what should my parents do?!?
long story short: he's a liar, a thief, and is working without a valid license although claiming he has one.- ANSWER:Call the cops first. Consult with a lawyer, you could sue for Fraud, and recover some of the funds that were paid (but not all, as he has done work). That case of the iPod is circumstantial, and unfortunately, circumstantial evidence is some of the worst you could use.
- QUESTION:What can I do about my noisy neighbor retaliating?
To make the story short, we've been having issues with our next door neighbor. We are only girls, but the next door neighbors are a "big" family living in a 3 bedroom apt. We share a common wall, their bathrooms are next to our bedrooms and their garage is above us. There are 8 of them, but only 3 people work & I always see the rest & they stay home. They are always making banging sounds with their cabinets & so we complained to the apt. manager about this. Ever since, they've been even noisier "and" EVERYTIME they hear us using the bathroom before we go to bed, someone takes a shower right after, like at midnight. So basically this person is retaliating because we told the manager & when we go get our mails & stuff, he stalks us after a few seconds, as if he's watching our every move!! So I spoke with the manager again so she spoke with them, they told her someone comes from work late & takes shower, but I told her it's a lie, but she said there's nothing that can be done.So my question is, should I always do something too, since she said she cannot control the time they do their thing, should I also make a lot of noises, turn on the tv?? or what should I do?
It's so noisy that I can't even take a nap, their bathroom is always being used, so I've thought about sleeping in the living room, but it makes me angry that I'm paying rent(not cheap here) but can't even sleep in my own room. They are a big family & they are always opening the garage door just to throw the trash or clean something, because we complained.I've had this kinda problem before and I feel it's because I live with girls and there aren't any boys.
Does writing a letter to the owner do any good? If I also get noisy in the middle of the night & complain to the owner, they could tell them we're noisy too. But what if I keep quiet & put up with them & then report them to the owner but the owner doesn't take any actions or they get even worse??Thanks
their bedrooms don't share a common wall with anyone & their garage is underneath our bedrooms, so basically the way they built this complex is bad for us but good for them.
wow, thanks a lot!!!
I was hoping to get some HELP but some of you really don't know anything about etiquette & how to be polite.. maybe when you get a stalker neighbor, then you'll understand!- ANSWER:I think I'd probably move when the lease is up. It sounds like these people are really childish and nothing will change them. I'd also be careful, because they sound a little off their rocker and you don't know what else they may think of to do, especially with it being girls who live in your apartment. As much as moving sucks and how expensive it can be, I'd either pray they move soon (which annoying neighbors NEVER do) or move yourself. I had to move recently because of my neighbor. Good luck
- QUESTION:My boyfriend and I bought a house. He's buying it off of his grandpa for a low payment each month. ?
The house needs a lot of work. & we're on a tight budget. Where do we start!? It's so stressful! The bathroom is tiny so we need to knock out the wall and build on to it. The walls need redone in the living room and bathroom. it needs carpet and new tile thoughout the house. the ceiling in the bedroom and living room need redone and there are no appliances in the kitchen. not even cabinets. What is a cheap but good way to get everything done and where do we start?
Its actually my boyfriend buying the house off his grandpa. The house is paid off already by his grandpa so my boyfriend only has to pay back his grandpa. not the bank. 2. the bathroom is TINY it has a toilet in it and a shower thats in crooked. no one has lived here in a long time. the bathroom is a MUST! i am moving in with my boyfriend. i wouldnt want to marry someone before living with them anyway. i didnt ask weither i should move in i asked for money saving tips and where to begin.- ANSWER:If you have basic skills, I would find someone that you can hire that will allow you to work along side them so you can learn to do this yourself.
I would also try and make sure that the deal your boyfriend worked out with his grandpa is legally binding. If something happens to the grandpa you don't want anyone coming and taking the house away from you.
- ANSWER:If you have basic skills, I would find someone that you can hire that will allow you to work along side them so you can learn to do this yourself.
- QUESTION:How can I get out of my apartment lease? If I go to court, do I have a strong case?
Beginning:
I picked the apartment in the middle of june, the landlord said it would be ready on August 1st. We moved in Aug. 3rd, with a lot of work needing to still be done. He said it would only be two more weeks, and that it is live-able because we have a working bathroom, although it was not completed.Middle: Over the course of 3 months (We've been living there), he has been in and out of our apartment a number of times.. he would come to work on things for a few days, and disappear for a week or two, and come back when he's ready. Also, we asked that he comes in the day time so he's not to disturb us after work, he comes usually while we are there, after 8pm, and doesnt leave till we are trying to go to sleep.
He is always asking for me, and refuses to discuss problems with my roommate, she has a temper, but he started before she lost it. He only comes to work on the apartment if I'm there... which ive been trying to stay somewhere else, because he's there.... and he will even come late if there was work to be done, in my room.
He does everything himself to avoid paying more. He finds cheap (time consuming) ways to work on the apartment. He will hire people to work for the day. And sometimes creates more work for himself to do later (most of the time through using the wrong paint, causing bubbles, or when he installed my ceiling fan, he drilled holes to look for the beam, instead of using a beamfinder...things like that). Another reason I want to move, is that I live in a crappy, "Crackhead-filled" neighborhood. It isnt safe. I dont like to leave after I get home from work.
Now:
I should mention that my roommate and I are two 20 year old females, and he does have wondering eyes.. So I see that he would want to pro-long his work. It is getting ridiculous, we waited a month and two weeks to move in, and then, it's been 3 months now we've lived there, and we still need smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector. He needs to put door moulding on my closet and a new front door and windows which he has already purchased. There are other things he's promised, and not provided, A micro-wave to go with our stove, bathroom cabinet knobs, the doors dont open without them.. New ceiling fans and light fixures, in my roommates room, and living room and kitchen. New Toilet... His excuse is (HE HAS MANY) He relies on the other tenents rent to pay for things for the apartment, (and at one point for oil, for our heat), and when they dont, we get screwed. That sould NEVER be an issue.
It is starting to get cold now, (I live in Brooklyn NY, by the beach, coney island), and it isnt even winter. Our heat has been a problem the whole time. He turns it on for only a half hour or so, and then it shuts off. My roommate has Lupus, and she gets cold and sick easily, she can do what she can to keep warm but sometimes it isnt enough. He came one day, because we told him to patch up tiny cracks and holes in our walls that the wind from outside has come in. It is a 120 year old building. He always says that he isnt, "One of those landlords who dont care". And tells us that if we are still cold, we can turn on our stove (which is dangerous, for us, and we have two small active dogs, and did I mention, WE PAY THE GAS.)
Another issue, We have Mold in our bathroom, (Which he worked on when we were moving in, so he should know that it was there, and chose to stay quiet, and collect)
I know that he would want to go to court, please be aware of what he might say,
* My roommate was late with her half of rent twice but only by a week
* My roommate's boyfriend has been staying there, the whole time. (Mostly because he doesnt feel comfortable leaving us with him always in the house.) And he has threatened to raise the rent, because of the boyfriends presence.
* He spent time building me a bigger closet, but still had plenty of time to work on other things in the apartment after, and before we became upset.
* He may say that we told him, "no it's okay, take your time, we want it done right"... But we didnt mean 4 months, for something that should only take 2 weeks. And a few times we turned him away, because it was too late and we had work in the morning.. Or we just got tired of seeing him in our apt.So this is the most I can think of... What do you think? We only want to break the lease and get the F#%K out!!
If it helps, I live in New York City... those laws would apply.
- ANSWER:By law, building owners must provide all tenants with the following levels of heat (During the heating season, October 1 through May 31):
Between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., heat must register at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit when the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees;
Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., heat must register at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit when the outside temperature falls below 40 degrees.
Tenants in New York City with heat and/or hot water complaints via the City's Citizen Service Center by dialing 311 and ask for the NYC Central Complaint Bureau's Hot Line.In addition, rent stabilized and rent controlled tenants can file a complaint with the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (718-739-6400) if the landlord is violating the above rules. For more details, see the relevant fact sheet on our web site.
If you find that the landlord IS in fact meeting the heating standards but it still feels cold to you, you might talk with the landlord about repairing windows or other openings that are allowing drafts to enter the apartment. Sometimes some caulking, tape or insulation around windows will provide tremendous heat saving benefits.
New York City Housing Maintenance Code requires landlords to provide and install smoke detecting devices in each apartment unit. Renters are responsible for maintenance and repair of the smoke detector(s) (i.e.; installing batteries, etc..). If the smoke detector is battery operated, the owner may charge the tenant up to per smoke detector. For more information, see the Attorney General's guide on smoke detectors.
Landlords are also required to provide and install at least one approved carbon monoxide alarm within each dwelling unit. The landlord may charge the tenant per carbon monoxide alarm. More details can be found on the NYC HPD website.
For more, visit this website: http://www.housingnyc.com/html/resources/faq/quality.html#dreading
Also, now make sure your landlord knows that you KNOW the laws. Tell him if he doesn't comply with the laws, you will report him. So, if he wishes not to comply and he wants to avoid the hassle you are going to cause him, tell him he can let you guys out of your lease without penalty (and be specific here, with 30 days notice to find a new place, full refund of your deposit, etc. and GET the agreement in writing). So, basically, learn the laws, threaten him, give him choice to be compliant or to terminate the lease for you.

- QUESTION:Black mold in rental property - can we break the lease?
My boyfriend and I are young and recently moved into a town home together. We're renting from a couple that told us they "gutted" the place and prepared it planning to live in it. From the start we had problems... bugs, a broken window that has yet to be fixed, a foul odor in some of the kitchen cabinets, hardware on the property simply not taken care of (is it that difficult to complete your bathroom "renovations" and screw in the shower curtain rod??). But the worst came when we had a massive leak coming from a cupboard which turned out to be a sewage pipe that had a pretty major leak for a long time. The plumber pulled out the cupboard and there was black mold all through the drywall. They pulled it all out but didn't take the time to enclose the area even though they clearly expressed that it was very hazardous and dangerous. They told us to disinfect and wash all dishes/appliances in the room, as well as throw out any open food. We actually have to throw out the appliances that had been sitting on that counter because they had been sitting in moldy, rusty water. The landlords said they would fix the wall but are not replacing the cabinets we have lost when they pulled out the ones that had been covered in mold. We haven't been able to cook in our kitchen since the handyman told us we had to disinfect everything so it has been an expensive week. Also, I've missed work due to really bad sinus infections twice in the past 2 months. I am HIGHLY allergic to any kinds of mold. Also, there is a cupboard that smells horribly of mildew and the handyman couldn't promise that all the mold is gone. We are uncomfortable being in our home and avoid being in the house at all costs. Rent isn't cheap and as they are not replacing the cupboards we feel we are being cheated in this mess.
Doesn't GUTTED mean taking care of these kind of problems?
We are already looking for a new home... will we be able to break our lease???
Also... two nights ago there were some pretty bad storms. There was dripping from the roof into the attic and we could hear it directly over our heads while lying in bed.- ANSWER:I would move and the lease would be an afterthought, this is not legal advice but I would take as many pictures of the damage as possible. I'm not quite sure why the landlord would not be replacing cabinets that were damaged by mold/sewage. It is their home isn't it?
It sounds like you have an owner who couldn't care less about the property or YOUR health.
Document everything you can and take lots of pics, if you are able to do so I would move ASAP. Your health and well-being should be your top priority.
The site listed below has a lot of information pertaining to mold removal and control and can give you some information about getting rid of some of it.

- QUESTION:What to do when the house you rented turns out to be a disaster?
I rented a town home with a property management company 7 weeks ago. The previous tenants who had lived there for over 10 years abandoned it. The first time I was shown the property it was pretty trashed and they had workers there fixing it up. I was told that everything was being fixed or replaced and would be in perfect order by the time I moved in. if I had any problems just to let them know and it would be taken care of.So I signed a year lease and moved in. however everything had not been fixed and the things that were fix were cheep and done poorly. So for the last 7 weeks this is what I have been dealing with. Stove was not working, air conditioning and heating not working, my front door dead bolt got stuck and I couldn’t open the door, no lock on the garage door, automatic garage door not working, electrical plugs not working, one window will not close or lock, screens broken, no light bulbs in any rooms, toilet lid and handle broken, one toilet that wont stop running, two bathtubs clogged, three sinks clogged, three faucets leaking, they only cleaned the carpet instead of replacing it, so there are stains everywhere and it smells, and on top of all that they were to cheep to hire a painter so the owner had some friends do it, so it looks horrible, bad patches and missed patches everywhere, I have had to clean paint off the floors, cabinets, tile, carpet, fixtures, door knobs, mirrors and take off the painters tape everywhere.
I called the property manager, made a list and gave it to him. Yet nothing was taken care of for 3 weeks. Now some of the things have been fixed but not all. I continued to call yet it seemed as if no one communicates with each other nor has there been any follow threw. So I began to clean and fix things myself. I also called a plumber and had him come out and give an estimate. So when it came time for me to pay rent I ask the property manager to take some money off my rent for compensation of what I had been doing, dealing with, fixing, cleaning..ect I also told him about the plumbers estimate. He said that I would not be getting any compensation. Then he had the audacity to say to me that I am simply an anal retentive female that wants everything to be just perfect. All of the things I am complaining about no one would have known unless they lived there. The condition of the place was fine and the previous tenants never complained nor did they ever call him for anything. After that he said no to the plumber I called and that he would call his plumber who was cheaper.
From there I did not hear back from him for 4 days. Then I came home from work and the place was flooded. Due to the running toilet upstairs and clogged drains I spoke about earlier. I had to call a 24 hour plumber pay him 0 cash to fix everything due to it was late at night. The property manager came the next morning told me don’t worry about this month rent till we figure things out. However now I am dealing with people coming to the house everyday, insurance, tests, and this company with fans to dry out the place. I currently have fans all over the place where you can not walk anywhere, they cut holes in all the walls, the fans are so loud I cant sleep, and I am sure my electric bill is going to be crazy. I’ve been cleaning up water, dirt, dust and everything from this mess. Now they took out the fans out, along with the linoleum floors in the bathroom, and cut out all the carpet that got wet. So I am left with a dirty house with holes in the walls, bathroom floors are sticky from removing the linoleum, and to top it off they did not remove any of the tack boards from underneath the carpet. So I continue to step on nails.
I guess you could say I am at a loss and looking for some advice on what to do next. I am not currently being charged rent and they said I would get compensation. However now I have to deal with all this being fixed on top of all the rest. How much compensation will I receive? The funny thing is all of this could have been avoided if the property manager would have listened to me and taken care of all of these thing instead of calling me anal retentive.
Thank you for reading this and any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
- ANSWER:Start looking for a new place. The house was grossly misrepresented, which should allow you to break the lease. Talk to an attorney (most offer a free consultation) and give your landlord an appropriate notice. It sucks having to move again, but at least you'll get your sanity back. Hope this helps.
- QUESTION:What to do about the town home I rented turning out to be a LEMON!!?

Okay. I stay in these apartments owned by the university I go to. You have to be an upper-classman or over 21 to live there. Each unit/apartment is 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. In my case, I'm female. So each girl gets her own room. 2 share a bathroom. It's summer. One of the girls is never here because she basically stays with her boyfriend in his apartment (somewhere else on the property). The girl that she would share her bathroom with (we'll call her Becky) has her boyfriend here ALL the time. I see him more than I see her. The girl that I have to share a bathroom with, Tanya, has her boyfriend here. ALL his stuff is in the bathroom in the cabinets and in the shower.
These aren't co-ed apartments. And I'm not skiddish about girls living with their boyfriends. However, this isn't a regular living situation. We don't have a choice in roommate like we would if we were living off campus. I wouldn't want to have a roommate who has her boyfriend over all the time because I already have an issue about germs and booty juice.
The only reason why I'm living here is because it's literally right across the street from the university and the rent is cheaper than all the utilities at my condo (that I still own).
Oh yeah, and homeboy left his nose hair in the sink this morning! I swear! I was so appalled. WHO does that???
They leave their wet towels on the floor. She left all her boxes in the common area, claiming she doesn't have any room in her bedroom. She has boxes on the counters. They don't wash out the shower after use (READ: hair all on the shower walls). Her stuff is everywhere.
I don't feel comfortable, but I don't want to be that person who is a party pooper. The lease agreement says that you can't have anyone over longer than 10 nights per quarter. It's been longer than that. They just lay up all day. The other girl goes to class, but her boyfriend stays here all day.
So, I really wanted to know what you would do in this situation.
- ANSWER:In this case, you should definitely speak with your roommates about their live-in man-toys. It sounds like your expectations aren't unreasonable, so you should not have any trouble communicating them to your roommates. In particular, try to avoid making judgmental statements about their boyfriends ("He's dirty!","They just lay around all day!", etc.). These statements aren't productive and they are great ways to get your argument shut down. Remind your roommates that they signed a lease that specifically prohibits extended stays (do NOT threaten them). It sounds like you wouldn't mind if their boyfriends kept the place clean, so you might want to suggest just that.
If they are unresponsive to your needs, you might have to take it up with the landlord. Don't go behind their backs. Instead, tell them that you are paying to live there and that means that you are entitled to some security in your living conditions. Make sure that they understand that if they won't compromise, you are going to bring the landlord into this.

- QUESTION:Home Improvement / Short Cash Flow.?
I am renting my first place, and it desperately needs help.
It's all I could afford right now, but it is a little block building. The cabinets, doorways, and shower are all painted black. The tile in the bathroom is corrupted. Needs doors on the inside. Also, how much would you spend on a used, but great looking outside door? I have found a very nice door for , slightly used.
I have been looking for the cheapest paint for its quality. I don't want real cheap paint, but I can't afford the really expensive stuff. and what is your approximate guess on the cost.
Where can I find cheap tile.
This isn't my house, I do not plan on living in it for years to come, I do not want to spend a fortune. I just want something somewhat presentable.
It is a block building, and I want neutral colors, I've been thinking off-white for the walls, and a beige/light brown for the cabinets, I do not have any pictures, but any ideas? Thanks a bunch!
I use craigslist on occasion, it is not my fave online ad. I'll check it out once more. Thanks hun.- ANSWER:Go to kelly moore, get 5 gallons of navajo white, and alot of primer
- QUESTION:What are my legal rights here? My landlord hasn't fixed hardly ANYTHING?
I have lived in my house now for 9 months of a 12 month lease. There were a couple things that were wrong when we signed the lease and we were told they'd be fixed within the month. 1) The sink pressure...well ... there was none 2) the third bathroom tub and sink were unusable, 3) the steps out the back door are...questionable in terms of saftey 4)There is a massive hole in our kitchen cabinets, and 5) --this happened later--the ceiling fan fell off on our friend's face in the middle of the night. 6) the refrigerator ice maker doesnt really work properly. (i dont really care but that was on the owners list of things he was supposedly going to fix)The only things that have been done in the 9 months we've been there has been a partially fixed new set of steps, and faucet, and a very crappily installed bathroom sink....the bathroom itself is still not something i let anyone go into because its got a bunch of putty and other things in the tub and its overall not usable as a decent bathroom.
All in all the place is fairly large so if i keep a poster over the hole in the wall, make sure everyone uses the upstairs bathroom, ect, ect. its fine. So its not like we moved into a dump of a house. The house in itself is beautiful, i have a nice kitchen, nice living room, ect, however, i feel like when i'm paying ,200/month i should be able to use the bathtub that i'm paying for downstairs, or that maybe i should have the right to be able to take down the Evil Dead poster covering up the massive hole in the kitchen, ad possibly have the right to a little bit of lighting in the bedroom where the ceiling fan fell. I'm getting really pissed. I know these are small things to fix and small things to complain about, but thats just it, its a SMALL job, take a day and fix it all!
I write this guy monthly letters and he hasn't fixed anything since the half-finished back steps in may. Can i get out of this lease early and find something cheaper and more suitable for 2 people to rent?
- ANSWER:For that amount of rent-you are certainly entitled to better conditions...Your landlord is the type that wants to collect his money and not spend a penny on maintaince. You really cant break the lease as these items are minor and it sounds like if it wasn't for this you kinda like it there. You have two choices--- finish out your lease and move-- or if you want to renew your lease tell your landlord these things need to be fixed before you sign again... It amazes me how some owners have no pride in their investment----to not spend a few dollars for proper up-keep...
- QUESTION:i need to remodel a house on a budget. any ideas?
we are putting down new laminate hardwood floors and carpet. we need to get all new cabinets and appliances, we need furniture and storage. and we are remodeling the bathrooms. any ideas on how to do this the cheapest way possible? we definately need storage for the playroom. and its a 3 bed, 2 bath. light wood paneling all throughout and red brick fireplace and brick all over that wall..- ANSWER:Make sure you plan well for the project. Nothing hits the bottom line of a project more than poor planning and "surprises" during the remodel. I wrote a free e-book available here:

- QUESTION:Can I sue my landlord for doing major renovations while we still live here?
A pipe burst upstairs in the hallway above our unit and our apartment flooded 5 days ago. We got the water out and everything was cleaned up that day. Some of our possessions were damaged, but we were not that concerned. That night a contractor came in and put 3 large, loud dehumidifiers in the apartment. It was hard to sleep, but it was understandable. We had to take our dog to work with us the next day because the contractors came in to do some work. When we got home that night 12 hours later, the kitchen sink was gone, the fridge was broken and all of our food inside had started to go bad, the bathroom sink was gone, the stove was gone, all our cabinets were in pieces and we couldn't find anything that belonged to us. The place was completely filthy. There were huge holes in the walls where they took off the siding and drywall. There were 10 large industrial fans blasting so loud we couldn't even hear ourselves yelling over them, and taking up so much space we could barely walk from one end of a room to the other, and they were positioned in all the doorways so we couldn't close or open any doors without trying to haul these massive heavy fans. The apartment is extremely hot, dusty and dry making it difficult to breathe. We grabbed some things and went to a cheap hotel nearby. We called our landlord and he told us we should have got renter's insurance. It's a basement apartment and we were students when we signed on it -- we couldn't afford renter's insurance, and this being our 4th apartment, we'd never even heard of it before. He has insurance for the building, but he says that in order to have a hotel payed for and reimbursement for damages, we need renter's insurance. Finally he settled on giving us a cheque for 0. We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and hoped that it would be a bit better when we came back today. It wasn't. All our stuff is still thrown around, there are no sinks and no way to cook or refrigerate our food, and the only running water is the bathtub which has been converted into a draining system for the dehumidifiers. Our landlord says that it's a matter of opinion whether or not the place is inhabitable. The contractors themselves told us that it wasn't safe for us to stay there, and they were sent by his insurance company. Tonight they took out some of the fans, including the ones in my bedroom, which is the least affected room in the house. So I'm sleeping in here tonight and trying to ignore the noise while my roommate and the dog are staying with my roommate's parents. (My dog had an anxiety attack at the hotel our first night in there and did not eat for 2 days. It's not safe for him in the apartment because it is too hot and dry and he has breathing problems.)Here is what I want to be reimbursed for:
- The food that went bad in the fridge
- The food we had to buy because we have no stove, no fridge -- essentially no kitchen as the counters and cabinets have been removed
- The hydro for this week, as there are 10 industrial machines in here running day and night, not to mention that the contractors leave all the lights on each time they come and go
- The hotel we had to stay inTo top it off, we're moving in 4 days and it's nearly impossible to pack as all of our things have been moved and misplaced, and are generally inaccessible taped underneath these tarps with all these machines everywhere... I cannot even find basic things like the packing tape and scissors. This whole apartment has been turned inside out.
As I said, I am not very concerned with the water damage or with the money I lost having to cancel some work this week to tend to my belongings and attempt to repack and relocate all our stuff. I'm concerned that he did not give us 24 hours notice that he would be doing major renovations making the apartment unlivable. He was showing the apartment to a lot of people last month, but nobody was interested in renting. Now he says that he is not even going to rent out the apartment for another 2 or 3 months because he's doing renovations. The apartment was in bad shape before the flood, but there are certain things being renovated that were clearly unaffected by the flood. He's not making any effort to make this apartment livable again while we're still here. He left us a cheque for 0 with a memo noting: "agreed upon compensation for apartment inconvenience". We haven't signed it yet because I don't think we agreed that this compensation was reasonable. It covers 2 nights at a hotel and that's it.
I live in Ontario. I've looked at the Landlord and Tenant Act online but this particular scenario is not covered and there seems to be a lot of grey area.
Does anyone know if we have a right to demand more compensation for all this? Or should we just sign and deposit the cheque and leave it?
Just to be clear: I want to be compensated on the impact of the renovations, not the impact of the flood itself.
Re: "Your best bet would be to ask your land lord if he will let you out of your lease so you can move somewhere else."You didn't read my questions... we are moving in 4 days, we already found another apartment a few months ago. And again, I'm not concerned with the damage to my belongings, I'm concerned with not having a fridge, a stove or any sinks and I'm concerned with not being given any notice about the contractors coming in and out day and night and leaving the door unlocked when they leave. And I'm concerned about the impact of the maintenance on our hydro bill. I shouldn't have to pay the hydro for their equipment.
Re: "In your next place, please get 'renters' insurance (you can get this through your auto insurance agent)."First of all, Renter's Insurance isn't going to compensate us for the damage done by maintenance, just by the damage done by the flood, which didn't significantly impact our possessions.
Also, we don't have auto-insurance... neither of us have ever had a car or a driver's license. It's too expensive. If we could afford cars, we could probably afford renter's insurance.
Re: "He isn't responsible for your food. That would have been covered by renter's insurance."
The flood didn't damage the fridge, the contractors broke it when they moved it.- ANSWER:No.
The landlord had to have those steps taken to dry the unit out properly and prevent mold from growing. Had he not done that, months from now you would be demanding compensation because you got sick from mold or because your possessions were damaged. Running a few de-hues and fans for a few days was no where near enough to completely dry the structure. It might look dry- but a restoration company can take a moisture meter and get readings showing that it was still wet.
They have to open up the walls to get the interior of the wall dry. You don't want mold growing in there. I'm surprised they did not rip up the flooring as well.
Those renovations should be grounds for your land lord to let you break your lease penalty free so you can move somewhere else, if you choose. Your best bet would be to ask your land lord if he will let you out of your lease so you can move somewhere else.
If you have a renters policy, that would pay for your damaged property and possibly the spoiled food. It may also help with additional living expenses if you need to stay in a hotel while this apartment is repaired.
The land lord is not responsible for these cost. Nor is his insurance company.
If you had a renters policy, report the claim to them. Otherwise, you will have to come out of pocket for those expenses.
When I was in an apartment, a pipe in the ceiling burst. My apartment had 4 inches of water through out. My renters paid to pack out all my belongings, dry them, clean them, itemize the total loss items and store them. Would have paid to pack back into the apartment after repairs. Since I was moving out of state anyway at the end of the month, I just stayed with a friend and left my belongings in storage for that month. My apartment complex would have let me move into an empty unit or break my lease had a unit not been available. My unit had to be completely gutted. Taken down to the stud walls an rebuilt. That was the only way to make sure it was dry and to prevent to spread of mold.
My renters policy cost me 9.00 a year in premium for ,000 in coverage. The costs you will incur out of pocket will exceed what you would have paid in renters premiums.
- ANSWER:No.
- QUESTION:How do you know when you have to much mold in your house?
How do you know when you have "to much" mold in your house? we rent, and we called the landlord (Debbie Brouse) about it years ago and told her it was coming through the carpet looking like black stains everywhere you walk, of course she never seemed like she was worried about it, obviously because she's not the one paying 0 a month to live with it. My mom just got throw rugs and covered it all up. I told her thats just a band aid, to much mold is a health hazard. You can see it on the drawer handles and cabinet handles in the kitchen, its on the rubber refrigerator molding, its on shoes and boots that are in boxes in the spare room, its coming up the door on the bathroom, its all over the floor moldings, and the worst part is the constant hacking up dry flem and coughing, sneezing, running nose, and it gets alot worse when you get close to the sinks. You can see stains where the wall meets the ceilings exactly where the roof rafters are. Before I redid the bathroom the tile was bent up in the edges and behind the toilet there were mushrooms growing through the large crack where there was no molding. The place is not a nasty place I just think the Realitor / Landlord knew there was a mold problem and they just throw some cheap flooring and carpet to cover it up. What should we do? my mom doesn't have the money to move, I'm just concerned about our health.- ANSWER:If you have any mold that is too much. That stuff will kill you. I would move out of that place asap. Or peroxide kills it but you can't dump that on carpet. But I'd scrub everything else down with it.
- QUESTION:HELP! What is your opinion of my landlord's behavior?
I have a strange little landlord, from whom i rent a small one bedroom attic apartment on the third floor of a house. I have a decent sized bedroom (with out a real closet), a super duper small bathroom (barely big enough to navigate in, especially with the slanted ceiling, with no bath-just a small walk-in shower), & a kitchen. The kitchen is pretty small. I have a sink (it is hard to wash dishes with the slanted ceiling), a super small counter (which is hard to use because of the slanted ceiling), and a fridge. I created & decorated my own cabinets & for dishes, and use a bookshelf for a pantry. I have a small dining table in there as well. I went into detail as of the size for the last part of the question at the end.My point thus far is that the place is already pretty tight in space, but i make it work. The reason i had justified it so far is, that, like i said, the bedroom is a decent size, the rent is pretty cheap, and i have hardly any sort of bug problems (which is very important to me).
My problem is my landlord. He has been a really nice guy, though kind of weird. When i first looked at this place, i told him, that if i move here, you can't be dropping by all the time, and knocking on my door . I rent from you-that's it. You are not my dad, boss, or friend. The last place i lived in, he landlord dropped by a lot, sometimes entering with his own key, if i didn't answer the door or phone. And he had no reason. I payed my rent on time & everything. He was crazy. So i made sure my current landlord knew that this type of behavior was purely unacceptable, & illegal from the start, before i agreed.
Okay, so he is really friendly with me. Just the other day, he said i am gorgeous when i answered the door, and started blushing hardcore. That alone does not bother me. But ever since i move here over a year ago, he is always "working on something" right outside my door. So he constantly makes noise, but that doesn't bother me as much as the fact that he is constantly right outside my door! And he justifies it because of his "projects" that NEVER STOP! Once one is done, it is time for ANOTHER! and ANOTHER!
So, i have been thinking, great! now he has done everything that he can do! Now he will hang out at his house or some one else's house, & i will have privacy....But NO-the plot thickens. Now, he wants to TEAR down part of my very small apartment to create an "office" for himself. An "OFFICE"???? It would be a very small office, and what would he do there? I can picture him now, sitting at his little desk, waiting for his cell to ring. This is ridiculous. He wants to sit right outside my door, and have a permanent excuse to be near me. Aye yie yie. Why does he want an office on the third floor of an attic next to a tenant??? This is unacceptable. This means, practically every time i walk out my door i could see him. No privacy. If i have guests over, we will walk by my little landlord and make introductions. He will be able to hear us talk through the thin walls. What if i get a boyfriend/husband & want to have wild, hot sex... he will hear us having orgasms. Is this not inappropriate/strange?
When i see him he keeps telling me about his plan, so i avoid him. He calls, knocks on the door-you name it. The other day, I answered my door in my towel & hair dye in my hair, & he just walks in & starts talking about his plan. I had to tell him, look this is not a good time. I have told him, that it would not work because, as it it i am tight on space. Then he says, he would create storage OUTSIDE my apartment. I don't need storage - i need living space. i don't want to have to walk out of my apartment by his little office every time i make something to eat by grabbing food & a dish to eat on. He has already started the construction on his office (it is very noisy by the way), but i am avoiding him because he doesn't listen. I am also thinking, what will it be like when he tears open my apartment? My walls will be open? This is crazy. I know there has to be a law against this? Has anyone had an experience like this or happen to know anything about this that might help me? I am planning on moving but can not afford to at the very second.
One other weird thing about this landlord is that sometimes if i don't answer the door he just walks in to access the water heater. Last time, fortunately i had the bedroom door closed, but what if i was naked or in the shower or something else personal?? I have a problem with my landlord seeing me naked &/or hearing/seeing my personal life. Other than all of this weird behavior, i like him, but I have to do something, & quick about this tearing down the walls for an “office” thing.
To those of you who think "it is his property, and he can do as he wants" - THINK AGAIN. i PAY him, for this space - NOT the other way around. When i pay him for the space - the duration of the lease - it is MY space & MY home - he has under no circumstances NO RIGHT to enter with out MY PERMISSION.. I already know this. And he has NO right to tear down space that is already agreed as MNE when i agreed to live here. In addition, him taking more space would make the place inhabitable. I obviously want to move but it is NOT an option right now. I need advice - not ridiclous "answers" that don't even make sense. Those kind of answers you would not be giving yourself if this was YOUR situation, so don't bother saying stupid things like that to me. I am not an idiot who will believe it.Thank you, to those of you who really care & are intelligent.
Imaginary scenarios? the walls are thin. I can hear what he says & does on the other side of the wall, so logically HE hears what i say & do. It isn't rocket science or "imaginary"! He does walk in and could walk in on me dressing or anything else personal. For a grandmother, mother, & wife of 44 yrs - you clearly could not be dumber. How naive. I am amazed by the idiots out here on yahoo, looking to verbally assault rather than help. And the reason i specified my privacy before hand obviously is because i HAVE had this happen before, like i specified, and wanted to make sure he understands that it is illegal. I have never made sure any one else understood & they did it. So, no, i didnt cause this to happen by making sure he understood my stance on it. Moron. That does not make the least bit of sense.- ANSWER:First thing is get a second lock and use it whenever you are home. He may not walk in at his convenience. Ever! It sounds like you do have a written lease, so he may not reduce your living space. Only after the lease expires and re-negotiation may he do anything other then required maintenance. And then only scheduled in advance with your approval. I see others have touched on just how creepy this guy is. I will only reinforce that perception. You need to look carefully for spyware and peep holes. If this guy is up to what I think he is, you have criminal grounds to have him arrested. Then you can own the building and move downstairs into the nicer areas of the house. Of course, only after you fumigate the place to remove all hints of this perv.
- QUESTION:What are these weird noises in my house?
I bought an old craftsman house near Issaquah Highlands, WA and I live all alone, not pets, no nothing. The house is restored and very nice, but there are some weird features. There is a boarded up attic, and for some reason there are these marks I can't get out of the walls of my bedroom, so I had to repaint. So, I work in Bellevue and I live a normal life, just a few extra stuff to do, but every so often, when I'm upstair in the bedroom, I hear something like cabinets slamming downstairs, and m ears are good, so I can't be making that up. I don't believe in ghost, but I don't see a problem with the house other than those creepy features I told you all, no foundation problems, and usually there aren't many creaks, it doesn't get hot often in Seattle, only mild in the summer. Weird...
Well, at night, it gets very cold, which I llike since I fall asleep easily in the cold(weird I know) and I usually go to bed around 12:00. Well, one night, my security alarm went off suddenly and I grabbed my pistol, and creeped downstairs, I searched the whole house. NOBODY there. The police arrived because the alarm went on for so long, but I couldn't find nothing, no broken windows, nothing.
So, I just though nothing of it and went on with my life. I have the weekends off and I woke up and something felt eary about this morning. It was bright and partually cloudy, but I felt like somthing was wrong. My door was closed and so I just brushed my teeth and as soon as I headed for the door, there were these loud thumps about a few feet from the door, CLACK-CLACK-CLACK! and I was freaked out, I stayed in my room with the door locked for hours and when I went out, I found nothing.
Today, I came home from work and I was eating cereal in the living room. The TV was on King 5 news and All of a sudden, I saw a black figure in the bathroom, moving around for about 2 seconds. I know I wasn't crazy, What could that be? I don't belive in ghost, but damn, that was scary.
Well the thing is, I bought this house from a lonely old man who lived there for 8 years, and he was weird, maybe had anxiety. He toured through the house and he told me about how he lived there and the house was great. He told me all of this creepy personal business. I got the house for cheap too, 0,000, things are expensive here. The avarage hoouse would be 641,000 or something like that, but I enjoyed that. But I don't know what is happening here. What is it? AM I crazy, paranoid?
- ANSWER:Why is it so difficult to accept the concept of ghosts and hauntings? Its right there in front of ur face. I am the first one to rule out a haunting with natural explanations, but in this case, i can't do that. Ur not crazy or pranoid, u seem perfectly sane and sound to me. No big deal, ur home has a ghost. Its not really causing u any harm, its just exsisting and making itself known occasionally. Personally, i would research the home and property, get its history. Maybe someone died in the home, or on the property, or maybe someone loved that house and doesn't want to leave. Really, most things can be debunked and explained away, and if u were screaming ghost ghost, i would be less inclined to believe you. It maybe time for u to open ur mind and accept things for what they are. There is no shame in that. Is it really a big deal if u admit to urself that most likey, ur house is haunted? Its not like u have to run amuck and tell everyone ur private business. good luck, and don't be scared
- QUESTION:What to do about apt? Very messy nastiness?
I moved into this apt without even looking at it which was a big mistake on my part but at the time housing was needed ASAP and this is what I got with an eviction on my credit. The first day I walked into this dump it wasn't even livable. There were roaches and I mean hundreds of roaches, big ones small ones med. eggs , everything all in the kitchen, crawlingi n the living room on the ceilings and walls. They had the place sprayed but long and behold of course we still have them a week later. The people NEVER cleaned. I pulled out the fridge, dishwasher and stove and there were hundreds of dead roaches n bugs, dust, old food etc. The dishwasher had mold in it that I had to clean, around the windows in one room and the sliding glass door (its not a cute one) there is mold. The apt manager told me it was condensation from the weather, isn't that mold though?!?!?!?! There are leaks that have yet to set through the ceilings but I can only imagine how bad the mold up there is, the cabinets are falling apart and we had to recock almost all of it and I think there roaches were living behind those as well. Our fridge is all messed up but they ordered us a new one. The tile is old and nasty and has patches missing, its not even real tile. Our carpet isn't really considered carpet I don't think. It looks like the stuff that would be in a cheap office, you fall or drop something and you'll break it and the landlord said that its carpet. The bathroom has the floor "tile" missing in a few patches, its dirty no matter how much I scrub and clean.
We are paying 0 for this place. We just looked at another apartment directly across from us and asked if we could move in there knowing they have no roaches (we asked) and they seem to be very clean people and they have nice white carpet and there thermostat works and he told us no because he can't do it because of the system and it then he'd have to do it for all the residents at this apartment.
We just moved in about a week ago and we absoultly hate it here. I still have to clean the blinds because they're all yellow and dirty. This place is a total nasty hell hole.
Does anyone have a site that shows apartment regulations, or can someone please help me as to what I should do? I don't think his place looks like this and I'm sure he doesn't have to be up every hour killing roaches on his food etc so why should we have to live like this??
Someone please give me some ideas on what I can do. I do live in California and my fiance has an eviction although I do not.
- ANSWER:Honestly, this is basic ghetto housing in CA. Cheap ghetto housing at that, 600 is very low. You get what you pay for.
None of this is anything that the housing authority will do anything about. They know that there needs to be very cheap housing available somewhere to house derelicts, otherwise people like your fiance would be living under bridges.
The landlord has to "take action" against the roaches. "action" is spraying every 8 weeks around the perimeter of the property. You get to deal with the ones inside the unit.
Expect poor living conditions for awhile. The eviction will stay on your mans record for 10 years and most normal landlords want nothing to do with him. You will not find many normal landlords in that price range anyway. You will not qualify for any subsidized housing because of the eviction.

- QUESTION:What do you think of my book excerpt?
The story is about an obese teenager.Chapter One
285. The blinking lights of the scale scream at me. Ugh. Disgusting. I am standing in the small cramped bathroom of my tiny one bedroom apartment. The walls are painted white. The entire room is sterile. Boring. I am standing on my cheap ten dollar scale, naked. Clothes add at least two pounds. Goosebumps rise on my arms and legs like prickly spiders, as I step off of the scale. The numbers disappear before my very eyes. Just like magic. I wish it were that easy.
The floor creaks and moans under my weight as I look at my reflection in the medicine cabinet mirror. My hazel eyes sparkle in the light. My mousy brown hair is cut short. A pixie cut. I used to work with a woman who had the same haircut. I thought it was cute so I decided to give it a try. I was wrong. The cut looked cute on her, but on me it is horrible. Absolutely ghastly. It makes my bloated face stick out. My double chin wiggles when I talk. I have a double mouth.
I stare at the rest of my body. White and pink stripes zigzag down my arms. My legs. My stomach. My thighs. The pink fleshly stretch marks are everywhere. I am hideous. I can’t stand to look at myself anymore. My stomach rolls and wiggles as I bend down to put on my clothes.
I cover up my disease with an oversized t-shirt and hoodie. My denim jeans are tight. The elastic band cuts into my skin, creating a red mark across my entire stomach. The buttons are so tight that I can barely breathe; let alone move. This is the only pair of pants that I can wear. Size 24W. I need to buy more, but I keep telling myself that I will lose weight. I never do.I would appreciate any criticisms or opinions. I'm new to Yahoo Answers so if I don't reply sorry, I don't really know how to yet. Thanks in advance for anyone who reads and/or comments.

Be careful with what your point is going to be after you open with this very heavy opening.

- QUESTION:What do you think of this snippet of my story?
The Happiness is starting to fade and the world starts creeping back in, one dark finger at a time. “No more Mary Jane tonight” I reason with myself. I think I’ve only smoked 3 joints but I can’t remember. The terrors of the day start to climb in the backseat of my mind working there way frontward but my Melodie beats them to the passenger seat; my sweet Melodie. Her Smile played itself into my heart long ago the rest of her just seemed to follow. I turn around slowly looking at the clock that sit in the nightstand; 8 pm, she may still be busy but I don’t care. The whiteness of the walls surrounding me disorients me for a while but after odd seconds searching under the bed sheets for my phone is only a minor annoyance. Finding her number isn’t hard, not too many people except her I care to keep in my phone. The dial tone starts and anxiousness erupts into my stomach.
“Please don’t go to voice mail” I think, but my fears soon vanish when a familiar voice answers.
“Amiee, what you want?” Short and sweet that’s how Melodie lived.
“I missed you. Do you think you can meet up with me at my house at around 7 to...?” I can hear another voice suddenly interrupting over the line.
“Melodie get off the phone we need someone else to join in.” Some dude called.
“Amiee I don’t know. I will call you tomorrow if I can. I’m sorry I can’t talk. You know how it is pleasure to seek and boys to please.” After Melodie stated that a dead silence followed by static, “shit”
Melodie she’s a free spirit. She had mischievous green eyes and playful curls to match her attitude. Melodie and I we love each other, but she loves men on the side too.
My pillow is calling me to sleep, but I can’t, not yet anyway the medicine cabinet’s call is far greater than the pillow’s. “One stumbling footstep in front of another” That’s what I keep telling myself as I stumble over to the bathroom who also greets me with a disorienting white. Opening the door of my cabinet someone might expect to find oxy, or crack, but the only thing that sits behind that door are bottles of extra-strength Tylenol. “Why Tylenol?” Melodie had often asked, but my answer always remained the same, “Cheaper and it’s not illegal.” Ha! Not illegal! Two words that pot heads usually don’t put together. 2 pills on tongue then gulped down, “what a great supper.”
Shutting the cabinet door I get a glimpse of my reflection; nothing special. Short wavy brown hair stuck to my head; not long enough though to cover the vacant holders of sadness that always stayed a warm blue against the tan skin covering myself. My mom used to always tell me “There ain’t no man alive ever be your husband with you looking like you trailer trash.” I didn’t really ever want to have a husband I’ve got my Melodie. Mom didn’t ever like me much, she claims I stole her figure from her, but I blame all her boyfriends of the week and cheap chips.
Sleep. I remember what I was going to do now. I stumble back over to the bed and lie down on the long ruined mattress; letting my self be overcome by what nightmares would come this night.- ANSWER:It's cool, I like it. It's a little confusing, but I'm sure it's gets explained later?

- QUESTION:Green cleaning products for new house?
My husband and I are getting close to closing on a new house, and if we get it, I want to clean it top to bottom before we start moving all our stuff in. The place is pretty clean to begin with, and we can borrow a steam cleaner for the carpets, but I'm not sure what to buy for the rest of it.All walls are painted white (ugh... that's gonna change). Some hardwood floors. Kitchen cabinets look like particle board on the inside. Granite counter tops. Linoleum and tile in bathrooms.
Also, we are both allergic to bleach, so I need a good alternative that still disinfects and won't damage surfaces. As cheap and GREEN as possible, please! Thanks!
- ANSWER:Vinegar/water or lemon/ water will clean and disinfect just about anything.
- QUESTION:What do you think of my Writing so far?
I just went through this and made major improvements. So how good is it and how can I improve it again. I also did my best because I am only 12 year old girl. I did what I know. So how can it be improved if in any way at all?Chapter One: My New School
It was a very nerve wracking, stomach turning day for me because it is my first day at a new school. I have sweat pouring out of my long, brown, wavy hair and showing through my new outfit. A close fitted T-shirt with extravagant details and a pair of jean shorts matched with a pair of flip flops on my feet. I walked to the large bathroom mirror one more time to make shure I looked okay. So now I am done fixing my clothes in the mirror and now I have to rush down the long set stairs because I as running a little late. I glided gracefully out the antique door and hopped into my old, banged up, red truck. I got my truck cheap, you see, after working a double shift everyday over the summer. I put the keys in the ignition and now going what feels like 100 miles per and hour. It might have been my heart that made me feel that, but you never know when it comes down to me. I parked my car in an empty parking space and took off towards the small school. I entered through the old doors of the school, schedule in hand, going to homeroom. I walked in nervously and saw a boy with blonde hair and big brown eyes. It wasn't his looks that has attracted me to him, it was just something about how he held himself like he has some sort of secret no one can know. I walked up to the teacher unwillingly. "Hi! Where is my seat Ma'am?", I blurted out like a fool. "Right by Justin Sparks there. The boy with the blonde hair and brown eyes." she replied sweetly in a tone that freaked me out. My first thought was, perfect. I decided I would get to know more about him by asking questions. "So how are you?" I said blandly. "I'm fine. How about you, new girl?" he asked curiously. "I'm great. So tell me a little bit about you." I said blandly again, but with curiosity. "I have no brothers or sisters, only my parents Lizzie and James. My favorite color is blue, like your eyes are." he said happily answering me. The bell just rang so I couldn't tell him anything about me. I feel guilty. "See you later" we said at the same time. I walked out of the room and into the not so crowded hallway. I took a quick peek at my schedule and hurried to my next class. I walked to the teacher, again nervously. "Hi! Where is my seat?" He just pointed at the chair and I sat down without a second thought about it. I just can't wait until the school day is over today.
Chapter Two: Disappointment
After school was over and I was home safely I was very disappointed. I didn't see Justin for the rest of the day. Tonight I hope to dream about him and what it would be like to see his secretive self again. I walked up the stairs carefully making shure not to trip and fall all the way to the hallway that leads to my huge bedroom. My bedroom has brown walls, like the color of Justin's eyes, and fancy curtains hanging over the windows. My bed is in the corner neatly made with brown covers. I walked quickly to the dresser and put on my white lace night gown. I also know it is quite a bit early for sleeping, but I just want to dream about him and nothing else. I carefully pulled out the covers from under the pillow and pulled them over me. I closed my eyes and counted to 100. I fell asleep 5 minutes later. "Beep Beep, Beep Beep" my alarm clock was literally screaming. I groaned and went to go wake my mom Renee also. She was already awake when I walked into the room. So I turned around and walked down the stairs slowly. I grabbed the box that contains my favorite cereal, pops. I poured it into the plastic bowl I had grabbed form the cabinet and added some skim milk. I ate it quickly and hungrily knowing I wouldn't want to be late for school.- ANSWER:Great! It could be slowed down down a little bit, and the flow is a bit awkward, but its great. There's a couple things bothering me though... First, I have no idea what the main character's name is. Second, don't you think she's being kind of obsessive over this guy she just met...? I mean, unless you want the story to be about how this obsessive girl ruins some poor guys life you may want to consider changing that.... Also the beat up red truck, and mother named Renee kinda makes me think of Twilight.... Although I did like the mention of how she got the truck that was pretty good
. I like the fact that you had Justin flirt with her a little with the favorite color associated in with her eyes. Perhaps she could start the conversation with shyly introducing herself, you don't want her to be so unenthusiastic, introductions between main characters are pretty important, and if during the beginning of the book, will show a lot about the character. For example, I slid smoothly into the desk, I picked absent minded at a hangnail, while eye balling this Justin character from a sideways view, he caught my eye for a moment and I hastily went back to my hangnail, moments later though I slowly took a peak to the side to find him smiling cockily at my, wearing an amused expression. "So who might you be?" he inquired. "INSERT NAME HERE," I murmured quietly, barely loud enough for him to here. Just by doing this you really do add some personality, By giving Justin a cocky smile and amused expression you feel that the character seems very sure of themselves, by having him strike up a conversation with the girl staring nervously (She'll tend to have a more nervous feel to her at the moment if you make fiddle with something like a hangnail) at him you figure out that he's friendly enough. Also when maincharacterwithnoname asks Justin to tell her more about him, either add more info about him or chose one piece of info, it's kind of weird to have him tell her something about his parents before slipping in some flirting (On this note, you really should emphasize on what her reaction is)... Also, her room doesn't need to be described quite so much, readers aren't intrested in the room, they're interested in what's going to happen in the story. Shorten it to a single easy flowing sentence. Ex. I entered my room, it had brown walls, matching lacy curtains, a simple desk, books shelf and small music system on one side of the room, a neatly made bed with matching brown curtains (I love the fact that you added in that the girl is neat, perhaps in a way this could form in to a flaw of sorts? She could be very particular about cleanliness. To mix in with it, perhaps Justin could be very messy, which bothers her).

- QUESTION:Hired a unreliable contractor. What should I do?
Recently, I realized that it is time to update the bathroom. Being the money saver I am, I decided to hire someone whom my neighbor recommended. It seemed like a good idea especially since he is her brother in law. Anyways, after he spoke with us (around July 10th) he helped us order our bathtub, vanity, sink, and medicine cabinet all using a online store. I prefer to see the items physically, but he insisted that it'd be cheaper to order it online. My husband and I gave him his first payment of ,600 to buy all the supplies needed. Two days before he was supposed to start his work, he got into a motorcycle accident with his girlfriend. He was cut up and bruised and said that he wanted to start a day later due to his injuries and that he needed to care for his girlfriend (she needed major surgery to fix her hip or something like that). Well after about three days, he gutted the bathroom and tore up the floors and walls. Over the next few days, he redid the plumbing, installed the tub, and put the walls up. Everyday since he started his work, he called before he would come and work. A few days ago, he called and said he would come. He didn't show. He told us that he had to work for his dad redoing another persons roof. The next day, he said that if it rained, he would come. It rained, and he didn't show. Two more days of waiting and he didn't call once. He started his work around the 15th, and it is now August 4th. The bathroom is still unpainted with no toilet, sink, and a working tub. I do not want to call and say something like "When is this job going to be done?" It seems like it'll pressure him or make him mad and he will do a crap job on the rest of the bathroom. What should I do? He is a private contractor with no license...help!- ANSWER:
- QUESTION:is it cheaper to buy an outdated house and fix it up?
Me and my husband want to buy something nice, but would it be cheaper to buy an outdated house and fix it up? Like, assume all carpets need to be replaced, and we'd want some wooden floors, all kitchen cabinets replaced, some with the clear glass windows, and the bathrooms would need to be remodeled, like turn the shower areas into huge tiles, rather than just the white plastic'y walls.
Ready to go houses are like 280k and junky ones are like 200k. We wouldn't do the work ourselves but want to pay home depot or some other place to do the work.
Thanks!- ANSWER:If you have the time & motivation & patience to do it, buying the "worst house in the neighborhood" & bringing it up to speed with the rest of the area is a smart investment. Homes aren't selling, especially fixer-uppers, cause no one wants to, or can, fix up homes anymore. It really depends on your personality, & having good judgment & professional expertise & inspections are key. I personally find it rewarding & thrilling to rescue a house, but then, I'm a designer & my fiance is a contractor. Ask yourself some hard questions: How do you REALLY want to spend your time & money - going out & having fun, taking trips, relaxing...or do you want to strive to a destination of satisfaction & pride in home ownership... & will the work & money involved be worth it to you in the end, despite the sacrifice & expense & frustration involved???
If you do this, I will caution you about a few things: #1 - DO NOT have Home Depot or other big box store do the installations/renovations. It's fine to purchase some materials from there, but I highly recommend deeply interviewing experienced & qualified local contractors/remodelers who are in business for themselves. Believe it or not, there are some EXCELLENT craftspeople out there. In the beginning, it may seem more expensive, but in the end, they'll be less expensive because they'll do more quality work that won't cause more problems & frustration & expense. The people at Home Depot, in general, are not very skilled. If necessary, hire an architect...but if you hire the right contractor, you may not need to. #2 - Hire an independent Home Inspector to go through every inch of the house. #3 - STILL be prepared for surprises #4 - Don't bite off any more than you can chew. Have a long-range plan for the entire house, but take one room at a time. If you try to do too much at one time, you'll end up burnt out. Prioritize & keep focused & disciplined. #5 - Stay flexible & keep your sense of humor in your journey, & grow your home with love.

Please help!- ANSWER:It doesn't sound like you have particularly great place. Perhaps the rent is very cheap but who can say what you might find if you start looking now.
While I read every bit of your long "question," there is not a lot of questioning in it. You have a problem but are you looking for an answer or a sympathetic ear?
You are defeating any potential solution before it is offered. You are sick of the situation but you can't move. You don't like the landlord, but you have month's to go on the lease.
You can't fix anything without looking at a problem that has solutions. Instead of looking at what you can't do you need to start to look at what you can do. If you can't afford rent then look for someone who needs someone to house sit. If you need a more stable environment then look for someone who needs company.
Your answers are right in front of you but you will never see them if you don't believe that they are there. For starters look for something beautiful.

It would also delay the finishing of the house because it would lead to more work upstairs which I was not counting on doing, like the floor and ceiling up there that need replacing.
We want to eventually sell this house, but it might be at least 10 or more years. Should we rip off the paneling and put up sheetrock?
- ANSWER:The quickest fix is to paint it. I'd go to the local home store that sell the oops paint and pick a color you can live with. In my area I can get a can for . They usually have popular colors and a lot of neutrals. When you have the time and money, I'd drywall the walls. Good luck!

The Floor Standing And Wall Mounted Data Cabinet
The challenge facing many businesses today is how to run data servers and related hardware in an efficient way without overloading thermal capacities of these devices. The amount of power needed to drive storage units, servers, and routing management devices that are used in today's online business community can become a cost-deficient equation, when combined with the cooling systems needed to keep the data center running trouble-free. Systems that run in an unconnected environment will waste power through excessive cabling, and those systems that attempt to reduce patching by piling devices together in what can be described as a haphazard manner will eventually have overheating issues.
The importance of a sensible, practical, and compact data center cannot be stressed enough. That is where data cabinets comes into play. This is not a new concept, yet many of the cabinets in use today are outdated as far as their ability to handle newer hardware that is continually needed to keep up with data control needs. Another issue with existing data cabinets design is their inability to contain upgraded device configurations in an energy-efficient manner that can control thermal conditions to a useable level. The network can be connected together in various locations around the infrastructure by a wall mounted data cabinet, usally housing small active equipment or patching arrangements.
In other words, the data center of today needs data cabinets that are flexible enough to handle changes in device installations while still allowing for ease of cabling and maintenance, all within a design that can handle the increased heat that is created by those devices. Any equipment that dispapates a susbstantail amount of heat would not normally be housed in a wall mounted data cabinet.
The first important feature of well-designed data cabinets is access. Loading a cabinet with hardware is one thing; leaving room for multiple cabling applications and maintenance is another. The best designs will have access doors and panels that will allow the user to open the cabinet in different ways, either to get at the devices themselves or to change patching configurations. A functional front door setup be hinged on both sides of the cabinet, and will be properly vented. Some of the better designs will include the option of a split-door style, much like a closet door that opens in the middle to allow access to the center of the cabinet, while also opening on the edges to allow access to the patch bay.
Of course, the patch bay is critical in all data cabinets including wall mounted data cabinet enclosures There must be an increased ability to change cabling configurations, allowing for both fiber optic and copper ports. This will be best addressed by having the central patch bay directly in the center, so that cables from routers, servers, and mapping and analyzing devices can be connected in one spot. Patching flexibility should also allow for both vertical and horizontal port configurations so that system devices can be changed out or relocated as the need arises.
Other important features of effective data cabinets include access door designs that are thermally-minded, drawing in cool air while removing heated air; rack-mount designs that allow flexibility and room for growth; and blanket panels that not only fill in any empty spaces between devices, but also maintain interior temperatures to a safe operating level.

Wall Kitchen Cabinets- Install Them to the Ceiling or Leave a Space
Should you install kitchen cabinets right to the ceiling or leave a space? This is a common question that most homeowners struggle with. There is no right or wrong answer to the question, but there are some challenges and design features to consider.
1) The height of your ceilings- ceiling height will not only have an impact on whether you will have enough room to leave a space above your cabinets, but it will also impact the size cabinets you can use. With 30" wall cabinets, if you use the industry standard of 19 1/2" between your base and wall cabinets, you will need a minimum of 84" in height, and with 42" cabinets you will need a minimum of 96"... if you are planning on installing crown moulding or leaving a space, that will have an impact on the size of the cabinets that you can use and whether you will have to install them to the ceiling or leave a space
2) Contour of the ceiling- In most kitchens, it is not always easy to see, but the ceiling is not perfectly level. Even in new construction the ceiling, just like the floor, will have some variances in height (the better the builder, the more accurate they will be). While it may not be obvious when just looking at your ceiling, trying to install cabinets right up the ceiling can reveal some significant high and low spots. Since your cabinets should always be level, regardless of the ceiling conditions, you will want to accurately note all of the high and low spots before deciding how you are going to install the kitchen cabinets. This is one of the reasons that most people leave some empty space above the cabinets or use crown moulding. The crown moulding can help hide all the imperfections in the ceiling.
3) Crown Moulding and Trim- As I mentioned before, it may be necessary to use crown or trim above your kitchen cabinets to help hide any variances. Even if your ceilings are level, it is quite common for people to use crown moulding or trim at the top of the cabinets to add some architectural detail to the kitchen. Depending on whether the crown moulding has to be attached to the top of the cabinets or to the face frame, it will have an impact on what level you can install your cabinets at.
4) The style of your kitchen cabinets- with european-style cabinets and some of the newer trends on the market, the kitchen cabinets have a full overlay door, which means there is little or no room between the door and the top of the cabinet. Because of this, it make it difficult to install the wall cabinets right up to the ceiling.
So before shopping for kitchen cabinets, it is important to consider the look that you are going for, the style of cabinets that you are going to buy, and the condition of the space you will be installing them in.
